I am expecting my new JVC HU today from SonixElectronics.
I think I have a gameplan in place after reviewing numerous info on the forum. I have read that removing the faceplate and dash is not difficult. Does anyone have any advice so that I don't break any plastic pieces. Where do I start and do I need any tools? Thanks.

I wrap a #2 standard screw driver with electrical tale (end), start prying in front of the cup holder on the passengers side (my preference), once it pops out a bit, grab with your hands and pull up. Move back to get the cupholder end, then pull the thing up and out.

Know it takes force - also know that if you break something, count on $150 minimum to replace plastics...

I'm much more cavalier about it since I've done it maybe 20 times...

I even pulled the glove box (top) on a whim - put the iPhone cord in via a drill hole - but then realized it's a dumb place for an iPhone (or anything else for that matter - the top glove is fairly useless.... ).

Everything does seem very well engineered...

Not sure if there's one near you, but Harbor Freight Tools has a set of plastic trim removers designed exactly for the purpose. Under $10. Great, if you don't have fingernails. Which JVC unit did you buy?

I suggest you print out the attachment to the sticky post at the top of this thread. It has good pictures and clear instructions for you.

I bought trim removal tools but ended up just using my hands.

I gently pull from the front cup holder, until it slightly raises, and then work my way around, pulling the opposite sides up..eventually the whole thing just comes off with usually very little force. The only peice that sometimes requires force for me is the plastic surrounding the power knob.

I also ended up placing my IPOD cable in my lower glove compartment. Required no drilling.

I'm considering purchasing the same HU. You have a Prius III. Which JBL adapter did you use. Which steering wheel adapter did you use? Do the bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel work?

    Thanks.
