Hi all, I'm new here. I'm considering a 2006 Prius to replace my 2004 Scion xB. I am looking at either the Package 2 or Package 4 model. One feature I would like to have is an audible confirmation (beep) that the car has been locked or unlocked; instead of just watching for the hazard lights to flash. The Prius models I've seen at dealers do this, but I was wondering if this is a feature of the SKS or of the anti-theft system? The models I've seen were usually Package 6s with the anti-theft and the SKS, so I wasn't sure which feature the chirp/beep was associated with. Thanks

[font=Comic Sans MS:1247060fa9]Welcome to PriusChat, Kevin! I don't have an answer for 2 or 4 packages, since I don't have one, but there's a slight beep with locking/unlocking the doors with the remote. I don't think it's tied to SKS. It's a great car, you'll love it.[/font:1247060fa9]

Thanks Bill. The Package 2s and 6s I've seen beeped when I used the buttons on the remote to unlock/lock the car and when I used the Smart Key to unlock/lock with the sensors on the door handle. It isn't something I need to have, but I was curious if that was something that one gets with the SKS or with the anti-theft. The Package 2 and Package 6 have both, but the Package 4 only has the SKS.

Hey Kevin. Welcome. I hope you decide to get the Prius and stick around. If you're looking for answers before and then after you purchase, use the Search feature. You'll be overwhelmed with the amount of information you'll find here.

Now, to your question. I am of the school that I don't need to hear my doors lock. For a reason I can't explain, I get annoyed when I see people exit their cars, walk twenty feet, turn and loudly lock their car. I'm not sure if they're trying to prove something or if their fob only works from a minimum of 20 feet. Even then, their doors must not have one of those push-button lockers like mine.

Now that you know how I feel about audible notifications, you can imagine the different avenues I've pursued in trying to turn mine off. The responses I got from everyone was that this is not a modifiable feature.

I push the lock button on the inside arm rest while I'm exiting the car. If I need to get something out of the back or the hatch, that's a different story.

Where are you, by the way? I ask only because if you want s real test drive and some real feedback, hook up with a local owner. It's one thing to test drive the dealer's car, but only someone who's owned and driven the car every day for the last several months can truly tell you all the ins and the outs of the car. I joined Priuschat seven months before getting Priapus. I thought I had learned all there was to know by the time I got him. No way, Man.

Thanks Tony. I understand what you mean.

If I get a Prius it will probably be a Package 2.

Audiable answer-back is only with SKS. I have no idea why, all it is is a buzzer under the engine compartment fuse block connected to the body ECU.

I can't say how the 2006 will handle this.

They have the audible answer-back so you can be sure your doors are locked. This has come in handy when I am in a hurry and hit the little black button expecting the doors to lock. Usually my culprit is the back hatch needs to be shut tighter. I have never used the remote function with my SKS.

Also the function is a security check. If you get to your car and not sure if someone has opened it you can hit your lock button and it will beep if the car has not been open or opened and relocked again. For those who want to be sure someone is not inside the car waiting to car-jack them.

I agree Tony that waiting 20' to set your locks does not make much sense to me (unless they are forgetful), but does not annoy me too much.

Yes, but what I don't get is why those without SKS don't get audio answer-back, especially when it would cost only $1 or so. Heck, they provide Alarm hardware, even when it supposedly is useless.

Hey, you will love the car...coming from a '05 xB to a '05 Prius, it's like I walked through the door in OZ.

You know, when the movie goes from B&W to COLOR? That is how cool it is to drive a Prius.

And mine goes 'beep' when I lock the doors.
