Hello All: Just purchased a used 2009 Prius base model (non-JBL system, no nav) I have been reading the forums for a bit and have a rather basic question regarding the rough equivalence of Gen II models: Is it safe to assume that the Gen II models are roughly the same? For example, I found the great install thread for a Kenwood unit posted by usbseawolf, but his instructions are for the 2006 model. Can I use the same parts and directions? The reason I ask is because the unit he installed is a double-DIN model yet when I checked Crutchfield it did not list any double-DIN models as options. (In fact, when I tried using his 2006 model it did not list any double-din models either.) Has anyone successfully installed a double-DIN aftermarket stereo in a non-JBL 2009 Prius? Thanks for any help! Jon
2006 to 2009 models are exactly the same as long as you have non-JBL. Yes, you use the same parts and instructions.
If you go to the pioneer website, then click on shopping tools. There should be an option for fit guide 2.0. That also lets you know which units would work in the stock location dimension wise as well.
Crutchfield's fit guide is a good guide but not perfect. Many things that will actually fit or can easily be made to fit are listed there as "Doesn't Fit".
If you go with Crutchfield's guide, 6.5" speakers won't fit in the Prius. They do fit and I have them in both front and rear. It also explains why there were no owners with 2-DIN unit installed before me. Well, it has been done and documented.
I read your audio build thread on diyma. You have one of the cleanest prius installs I've seen. Love where you placed your amp. I agree, don't take what those sites say as gospel but as a general guideline. I just bought some 6.5 hertz high energy components and coaxials so lets see if these will fit.
You are spot on: every site I visited to see what would "work" in my Prius indicated a 1-DIN was the only option. I had seen a few 2-DIN installs over my last few weeks of searching albeit not on 2009 models. Now it is only a matter of picking out a system! Thanks for your help guys!
