How can everything go out at once?

    I have a 2001 Prius whose triangle of death came on the other day. I took it in, they said the 12V battery needed replacing. (It had been replaced two years previously.) They replaced that then said I needed a new computer. They put in that, then said it needed a new trans-axle. My car is not worth the price of a new-trans-axle. I had no warning lights or signs of problems previous to this. How can all this stuff go out at once?

    A couple of quick questions:

    • Do you have a back-up vehicle or is this your only one?
    • Can you get the codes from the dealer and post them here? This is the way we understand the problem(s) the codes are reporting.

    My son who lives with me has a car but right now I'm renting a car.

    I'll see if I can get the codes tomorrow.
