It'd be interesting to hear how many got the stinky end of the stick. I've already heard from about a dozen or so (some even had multiple identities set up for just such a case) that got no deposit invite, even though they'd been registered for months. bummer.

It's interesting - on the confirmation page there is a link for "choose your dealer" When you go to that link the page has some stuff on it about: Dealership Nissan LEAF Reservation Certified* Contact Information *Reservation Certified Dealerships have at least one sales leader able to facilitate the Nissan LEAF purchase process When I look up dealers within 100 miles of me - several show up in Reno and Carson City, and then Sacramento and on towards the Bay Area. I wonder if this means that they will ship to any dealer on the list (and if it means they will ship to any dealer on the list during the initial rollout). For now - I'm not choosing a dealer until I understand if it effects the selection process. I may have to visit the dealer to see if they have any details before selecting one.

 

Actually, I signed up for the free charger a couple weeks ago...the EV Project...just went to their website and signed up...there's only going to be about 4700 free chargers and only those in the 5 rollout states.

 

Got my email at 2:55 mst and reserved a high optioned black one! I am in az and hoping go get one in December with a free charger! That would be sweet. I have a garage with the perfect set up with the fuse box right on the other side of the wall! I reserved maybe 2 minutes after I got the email. No hang ups!

 

It may just be a cookies issue - try temporarily allowing all cookies to see if you can get through the process, then turn them back off.

 

The NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE Leaf customer service line said that anyone can order one from any dealer who is eventually selected to be a Leaf dealer (which I presume involves some training). But that suggests that people outside a market could get one, but would then be far from service. This does not ring true to me.

Back in 2004 and 2005 people were flying halfway across the country to buy a Prius from a dealer who had one on hand, but every Toyota dealer could work on the car. I presume that during the initial roll-out of the Leaf, only selected dealers in the roll-out markets will be able to service the car.

I selected the Nissan dealer closest to me, because he is enthusiastic about the Leaf and has promised to sell the car for MSRP without added charges. I suspect that having a lot of people select a dealer makes it more likely that Nissan will allow that dealer to sell the car. And I want to be able to get it from the nearest dealer.

 

I can almost see the dealer I selected from my front yard.

 

SPECULATION:

The confirmation codes (which we've noted were apparently randomly generated) may not actually be places in line, but merely confirmations that you've given them a $99 deposit. Nissan has never said that first to make a deposit will be first in line to get a car, have they? After all, they've accepted deposits from people far from any market area. The actual waiting list, with places in line, may not begin until they solicit firm orders from people in the (as yet to be determined) roll-out cities within the "markets." (I.e. Spokane is in the Washington State market, but they've not decided whether Spokane will get any Leafs.)

Once they solicit firm orders from people in the cities where they're actually going to sell the car, it may be first to the dealer is first in line.

Just a thought. But I'd give even odds that I'm right.

 

Here's the way I see it happening: I know that in each of the five initial rollout states there will be about 1,000 cars available to sell for 2010. To be fair, it should be 'first come, first served' by which day the person made the 'reservation'. Who wants to worry about rushing to a dealer and standing in line for who knows how many hours/days just to ensure you're in the top 1,000? It would be sooo much easier, less hassle and stress on everyone to just take them in the order they reserved OR in the order they signed up on their website.

 

Most likely the "waiting line" will be filtered by location, suitibility, and willingness to be closely monitored.
We might be weighted by the same attributes, and those on the "most suited" category could be offered the "test-study" cars first.
If too many "qualify", then the Reservation order might be used.

Apparently just living in CA does not qualify a willing test-owner. Living near enough to the initial "dealer(s)" in San Diego might be necessary. I might live 70 miles away, but they might require living within 30 or 40 miles, to better obtain service and do monitoring.

At least, it could be so.

 

i think that june 30th is when we will all find out when we are getting what we are getting and like the 2010 rollout, will depend on where we are located. i

its only fair and obvious with the email debacle, that a "first come-first served" basis would be extremely unfair...especially since i did not get my email until 5.55 pm eastern...but then again, from what i understand, that was only about 30-35 minutes after the first email

 

Funny, I received confirmation e-mail today with $99 amount charged from my cc and the 8-symbol confirmation #, and with reservation date as 4/20.
But when I go to my account I still see: "to confirm your reservation, please complete your payment" and then "Our servers are under extreme load, please come back in one hour."

I hope I am all set despite the web site issue I still have.

Thanks. Just called that number. The CS confirmed my reservation # and cc charge (although I do not see it posted by the bank yet).
The web site account issue is still not gone - the same old "Compete your payment..."
