Hi: I'm taking HUMU to California in a week or so. HUMU has the SE/SS fob. I was wondering how I might take a second fob with me as a backup and still be able to lock the car......As I see it, locking the car means carrying both fobs with me which somewhat defeats the purpose of having a second one somewhere besides on my person, i.e. in my luggage, as a backup. The car won't lock with a fob inside. Is my only option to take the battery out of the second fob and keep the fob and battery in a tupperware container? B
You can lock the fob in the trunk area. If you're a jogger or surfer or something and you want to lock your belongings in the car but have a weatherproof key, just take out the little backup key and keep it on your body and lock the rest in the trunk. You might want to test this out before you go though.
No - I had my second fob in my trunk (long story, I now have both fobs and only one Prius as an immediate result). At times, I could lock it, at others, it would chirp at me until I either disabled SE/SS or removed the fob from the bag in the trunk. -Rick
Problem is that you can't lock the fob inside the car if you have SE/SS; are you suggesting I could do it if I removed the mechanical key?
Remove the mechanical key and disable the SE/SS switch. If you attempt to use the power locks to lock the car with a fob inside (i.e. switch, etc.) it will unlock again and beep at you.
I wonder if one of those lead foil packs that are made to keep camera film from getting exposed at airports would work. I really have no idea. Are you worried about losing the key, or having it fail?
