I'm back from the fun trip and disappointing Capital One Bowl in Orlando. What a horrible field with awful play calling, time management and sad ending for us. We will re-group and come back stronger....I promise!!

Next trip....Vegas in February, baby!!!

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for....

The Great Toilet Paper Study is complete! Well, I've had enough of it anyway, so I'm going with what I've got. I didn't get to try every single brand or variety, but most of them.

Goal: Answer the question, "Which toilet paper is cheapest?"

Methodology: Try each brand, one roll at a time. Keep track of how long (in days) each one lasts. Make sure to be consistent.

Results: First, here are the 14 toilet papers, ordered by price, cheapest first. Bought at same store, assumed one would be willing to buy the largest economy package available. The comparison figure is the price relative to Scott 1000 Sheets, the brand I started with. So that means that for every dollar I could spend on Scott 1000, I could alternatively spend 77 cents on Marcal 1000 sheets, or $2.02 on Cottenelle Triple to last the same length of time.



The winner is Spirit 1100 Sheets. It easily beat out all the other brands. How do they do it? Here is a clue: I have ordered the TP's by how long they last, longest to shortest time. Again, the scale is realtive to Scott 1000. Spirit 1100 lasted 80% longer than Scott 1000!



It is important to note that the rolls of 1000 or more sheets have thinner sheets, so I end up using more for each use. Still, those rolls are dense. You can tell when you pick up the package that they are heavier. If you ever want to compare two packages of TP (with the same number of rolls), pick up both and see which is heavier. That is usually a clue which one will last longer.

4. Green Forest
5. Scott Naturals

What about quality? Which brands are softest? The soft brands are Charmin (Basic and Ultra Soft), Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, and Cottenelle. Panda is soft, but in a weird way. It feels kind of thick and not so flexible to me. I didn't like it very much. If you are looking for a soft, luxurious TP, Charmin Ultra Soft wins hands down. It is perfect. It also happens to be the cheapest of the softs, even beating Charmin Basic, as long as you are willing to buy the 36-roll economy pack.

I haven't said anything so far about Shurfine. It is not recycled, not soft, not cheap, and a roll does not last very long. Good thing, since the texture is very rough so I would not recommend it at all!

So I would recommend either Spirit 1100 Sheets, or Marcal 1000 Sheets, or Charmin Ultra Soft. Spirit will usually be cheaper, unless there is a good sale or coupon. Marcal is the one to get if you must have recycled paper. Charmin is good if you require softness, and also good for the guest bathroom, to pamper your guests!

How do you know the thread is bored? Just because it's boring doesn't necessarily mean it's bored.

In terms of appearances, it's a little worse for wear.

But I sprayed it with Lysol, so I'm sure everything's fine.

 

It took seven months for it to dry out?? Wow.

 

It took fewer than seven days to dry out. But I was saving it for the right moment.

In other news, I did my laundry today. But I forgot to include the kitchen towels.

 

I have a load of clean dishes in the dishwasher. This will be the second day they've been waiting to be put away.

 

Congratulations on coming out of rehab. That's a fine looking roll of toilet paper you've got hanging there. It matches your decor.

 

Hey, what brand of toilet paper is that? I don't recognize it. It sort of looks like one of those 1000-sheet types.

 

I'm on day four of a juice feast.
