    Not sure I fully understand the problem you are describing Hyo.
    If it's simply an issue of anglicised spelling, these are the settings I use:

    Those settings work well for me every day, and if there's any adjusting to do as I write (& I write a lot), it must be automatic by now, because I don't really notice having to do it.

    If it's an issue with heterographic words (two, too, to), there's no spell checker that is that context sensitive. If it's an issue with homonyms, well the only problem is in the head of the beholder. I suspect it's more likely in your case Hyo to be an issue with chronic overuse of malapropisms and spoonerisms, called punomania.

    Yes, mffdsns, it's the Anglicising - or in this case Canadianising - I'm trying to achieve with the professional documents. Once I've opened a doc and fixed it, it's fine. But when I open a foreign one, English(US) magically reinstalls itself as an enabled editing language, and then proceeds to "correct" all the non-American words. The document's settings seem to be overriding the system settings. I'm usually a pretty calm and patient person, but sometimes....yes, I know swearing emphatically in the computer's general direction isn't helpful. :rolleyes:

    Hetero or homo doesn't bother me in the least, and the punomania I'm quite used to. The red ink practically drips from the screen. :p

    So, have you TRIED just adding the Canadian words (U.K. spellings, I'm sure) to the dictionary?

    What, use the US dictionary and add 'colour' and 'cheque' to it? How gauche. How...well, yeah, that might work. Sorta. :rolleyes:

    But, can I delete words from the dictionary, like color? And mold? And neighbor? Hmm, can I do that? :confused:

    And what do you mean 'UK spellings'? What country do you think English came from?! And who changed the zed to zee? :eek:

    We can be friends, Rae Vynn. Good friends, even...spend time in each other's country, discuss politics and religion and whatever else tickles your fancy. Under protest, you can make me drink flat, watery beer, and listen to otherwise sane people go ballistic over 'socialist' health care, but I will not use a US dictionary. Not even if you twinkle your cute little wiccan nose and freeze the flames of hell. :p

    I won't drink the flat, watery beer either, sweetie.

    Occasionally, when I'm not paying attention, I spell it flavour, colour, and cheque, as well.

    Generally you cannot delete words from the "standard" dictionary. But of course OpenOffice is open source, so you can do anything with it, if you have the programming skills. Tell it what you want and re-compile.

    Not a bad thought, but I checked that. Just to be cheeky, maybe I'll try English (New Zealand) to see if that might work as well for me as it does for you. :)
