Hi guys, my nav screen got completely smashed when the contents i was transporting flew into my dashboard while moving to my new place in long island. Does anyone know where i can find a stock replacement through a junkyard or somewhere other than toyota? I was looking on this site and the only qoute i can find is 3400.00 which is way more than i want to spend. I figure thats accurate because the dealer wouldn't even give me a qoute when i called. I just got this car in january and its been one thing after another. any help would be sincerely appreciated
Holly crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry for your troubles. I'm glad i'm so poor i can't afford any options on my car. Thats way to much they want you to pay.
1. You really have two choices - find one on Ebay/junk yard etc - almost impossible - likely cost $1000+ (easy to replace). 2. The Nav is built by Eclipse - and I am sure the screen is a standard size. I'd call Eclipse, and try to get them to repair it - or to recommend someone. It's easy to pull the thing - then you send it somewhere......... Good luck! You may also be able to find one at some dealership in the $2600 range (no install).
Replace it with a new HU (JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer) You can get a complete unit including Bluetooth ,Ipod, DVD and Nav for less than $1000 Check this fourmn for Install procredures links. Good Luck Jim
wow i posted this two hours ago and already have 4 posts with positive solutions? this forum rules. Thank you all for your suggestions and help. I'll probably go the aftermarket route considering its the cheapest. Thanks again for the responses. rrolf, what did you type in to the search bar to find the screen? i checked ebay before and didn't find anything but sun shades...
search Toyota gps dvd, and add the search option $1500 - $3000. That's bring it up... Here's the link TOYOTA PRIUS GPS DVD NAV NAVIGATION DIGITAL LATEST : eBay Motors (item 250587145246 end time Mar-27-10 10:38:57 PDT) - Of very interesting note - they also repair the OEM units. Should be an easy repair...
Give Steve Woodruff at AutoBeYours (autobeyours.com) a call. He deals with salvage Prius stuff all the time--he can probably hook you up with a replacement MFD for a reasonable price. Andrew
Hey , Did you call your insurance company? Perhaps it is covered under the fire and theft or collision ???
thanks for the link... yeah 1800.00 is a little to steep i'm prob gonna go with an aftermarket unit. Andrew, thanks for the tip i called them and spoke to a lady named Jen and she told me they don't have any '10 so i think i'm pretty much screwed. my last car before the prius i totaled in snow storm not to long ago so i'm really trying to avoid anymore car accidents on my policy. I actually called Toyota and asked if they would cover it since it was the ABS malfunction which caused this whole problem in the first place. They told me its going to take up to a month to do an investigation and everything. thanks for the support guys.
Just In case anyone ever has the same problem, I found a guy who repairs the screens thanks to rrolf's ebay find. His name is Tahir Mallick and his email adress is [email protected] I just sent him my radio today so when i receive it back i'll post on how everything went.
just an update in case anyone has a similar issue. Tahir emailed me and said the repair would cost 650.00 to replace the cracked screen. Its a significant cost but its better than having to buy a new unit all together. :sigh: i wish i had not been so foolish as to buy the version IV in the first place. If anyone is in need of a person who can repair navigation screens, touch or otherwise PM me and i will forward you his information.
Thanks for all of your advice & experiences. We shall see if they own it or what! I will let you know...
err ... sounds like your brakes worked *just fine*. That is why the stuff you had in the MFD's line of sight flew /*forward*/. To the other genius who suggests trying to defraud the insurance company, collision does not cover car damage from the owner. This is why you cannot take a hammer to your car, and expect your insurance company to buy you a replacement. Attempts at fraud aside, I would try to buy the glass and replace myself.
If it was the known Prius brake problem where the brakes periodically slam hard like panic stop when you just tap the brake pedal lightly, then it was caused by a brake problem/defect. That was not working "just fine." I think insurance can cover these things. If you back into a pole and damage your bumper, you can file an insurance claim. It is up to them if they want to risk a premium increase resulting from making the claim or not reporting it.
