Previous Car was a Lexus GS400. I miss the luxury and power, but I went for the gas milage. So yes I would have spent more if they had lexified it correctly.

My wife's previous car was a 2006 Toyota Rav4. More power and room but we decided it was time to go "green" and bought a 2010 "factory fresh" Prius IV two weeks back.

I had a 98 Legacy way back when. It was downright miserly compared to my 2005 GT. Add to that the fact that the GT required premium and

My last car was a Mercedes R-Class. I loved everything about it except for fuel efficiency. It was much more car than we needed, too. So, the Prius came along at exactly the right time. The biggest surprise was how much hauling capacity the Prius has.

Driving my 2007 Ford Fusion SEL with 3.0L 6-cyl ICE while I wait for the Prius to come in. Very fast, but 22.5 MPG overall. I will miss the ponies, but not the mileage.

It's also a surprise what a little creativity can do. Stuff a little here, stuff a little there, stack this, stack that, and voila!

Loved DC when I visited last Oct.

93 Corolla wagon. It was awesome - lots of storage space for tools and dog, peppy, used to handle well before the suspension got tired, decent mileage. At 219k miles it needed a few things to make it good again (suspension, AC, tires). Rather than spend the bucks on it we got in on Washington state's sales tax exemption, and now I have a car with those new-fangled things like ABS, traction control, and more than one air bag. As a parent of a young child the safety update is comforting. I do miss the cargo area of my wagon, but I like my mileage. And it is quiet.

My Corolla is now a taxi in Afghanistan.

whoa.. big change! Also one of the rare R-Class owners!

how was the Corolla wagon? It wasn't offered in 1997 when my parents were looking for one so we ended up with the sedan (I think they stopped selling them in Canada in 1995 or 1996).

lol.. seriously. I figured Mexico is closer.

My last car was a bicycle!

And it still probably gets more miles around town than the Prius does. The Prius definitely wins for those weekend excursions a few hundred miles away though...

My previous car was a Peugeot 307 2.0l HDI (110hp - diesel), which is in the same segment as the Auris.

I averaged a bit more than 35 mpg on that car (I'm at 49 mpg with the prius after 6,000 miles of winter driving) so that I'm not really paying a lot less for fuel (diesel is 15% cheaper than gas in France); but I hope I'll never go back to diesel because of the comfort of having the engine stop as soon as I step off the gas.
Peugeot has been working on a hybrid diesel for 5 years now, but they never went past the prototype stage, and I doubt a diesel engine can be stopped and restarted as smoothly as a gas engine (plus they are just adding electric motors on the rear axle which means the diesel will still need all its expensive maintenance stuff).

Waiting at a traffic light with the diesel engine running was a real pain, plus I had to change some expensive sensors at 75,000 miles otherwise the car would run like a 50 hp car...

My last car was a 2005 model 450 Smart Car. That is the original model, powered by a Mercedes Benz engine rather than the newer 451 that is larger, heavier and powered by a Mitsubishi engine. I liked the Smart but my wife didn't and I couldn't carry my radio controlled model airplane in the Smart as it was too small (the car, not the plane.)

I started out looking for a pure electric car but with the current batteries available they are not yet very practical for more than just a few runs to the local stores and I have an electric bike for that. A friend has had a Gen 1 Prius since 2003 and they still love it, so I took the wife to look at one. She liked it and the new Gen 3 sounded even better, so we ordered the car. This was just after the very successful Cash for Clunkers program ended and there were no new Prius' available in our area. Then it took six months to find a buyer for the Smart Car.

I'm picking up my new Prius on Friday and saying goodbye to my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. I bought the truck in late 2000 and always thought I'd keep it 10 years, so I'm close enough to that time. I picked a Prius mainly because of the gas mileage (I'm lucky if I get 20mpg now), I primarily work from home now and don't need to worry about travelling in the snow, and I think Toyota's Hybrid technology has proven itself out.

My previous vehicle was a 2007 Ford F350 SuperDuty with the 6.0 Diesel V8. Loved it, but was getting a little pricy with the fuel and the long commute (145 miles round-trip). It was also very large and tough to park; 22 feet long. Though the Prius doesn't tow the trailer as well.....:)
