Well I am a happy new owner of a black 2010 package III toyota prius. I think the wheel covers are ugly and want to take them off. I have seen pictures of just the alloy rims underneath and think they look way better. I notice though, you need the toyota cap in the middle without the wheel covers on. My question is does anybody know where I could purchase one at and how easy/hard is it to take off the wheel covers?? Any helpful advice is much appreciated, thank you.
Yes you can buy a center cap for the alloy. I believe there are a choice of 2 or 3 different styles and you can order them from your dealers. Costs are quite high for what is effectively a small piece of plastic and the plastic wheel covers are very easy to remove and replace. I'm going to get a set of center caps for mine for the summer - just for a change.
Have a look for the 15" wheel center caps threads in the gen3 accessories forum. There are a few. Here is one. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...modifications/61201-15-wheel-center-caps.html
Has someone posted a pic of the stock 15" wheel without the cover and OEM center cap installed? I may have missed it but don't see one.
I ordered the caps from parts.com - there's a thread with the link, and it states for like the 05 or 06 but they fit just fine. No pics here yet, maybe later today if I remember.
Be careful if you shop on eBay or some other site which isn't gilt-edged in knowing the Prius's. There are several very similar looking center caps, but only one fits the Prius. As I've scrolled through eBay, I've noticed that a number of sellers say their caps will fit the Prius but they won't. Elsewhere on the site are pictures of the various kinds of caps. Perhaps you could do a search for it -- I dont recall where it was posted.
Here are two shots with the OEM centre caps and one with out caps or covers. Hope this helps Edit: Thanks ozarkgolfer, I hadn't notice your post until after I posted.
I did this and it's loads better. I've never liked hubcaps and as soon as I realized that there were nice alloy rims underneath, I couldn't wait to pull them off. The rims with the center caps definitely makes your '10 look better and differentiates from the rest. I got mine from parts.com. You have to go to the Toyota Yaris section, NOT Prius. This is a Yaris center cap for some reason. It's about 10.49/cap. Part #4260352110. Took <5 days for me to get it - Ordered on a Tuesday, got it on Friday. I ordered it last week.
Go to your local Toyota Dealer and ask for the item#4260352110. It fit perfect to the stock 15" alloy wheel. List price is $22.00 but I know the parts manager, he offer me a good deal @ $10.00 each plus tax. Now my baby looks great and I am happy.
My wife got really mad at me for doing this. She couldn't believe that I went out and spent $1,000 on a set of alloy wheels without checking with her first. It took me a while to calm her down. She didn't believe me at first, but our next door neighbor has an older Prius, and the hubcap was in place on the front and removed from the back wheel, so I pointed to it and showed her that I'd just removed the hubcaps and that was all. The small replacement center hubcaps cost me about $11.50 a piece from my local Toyota dealer.
Thanks for the info. Has anyone noticed any MPG impact from removing the hubcaps? There must be a tradeoff, otherwise Toyota wouldn't put a hubcup over a good-looking wheel for additional cost.
I've only had the car just over three weeks and have had the caps on/covers off this past week, so hard for me to say re the difference in mgp. I have read a few other threads that seem to indicate that there is probably some reduction but only a small one. However over time even a "small" reduction can add up.
