    Hello,
I am assuming i am not the first one to report this issue.
but last week my prius 2004, 89000 miles, started with the brake light, ABS and warning light on nd rmained so afterwards.
I took it in for a diagnostic test with toyota.
the codes read C1311, C1377. as an internal failure at the skid control ECU.
they quoted parts and labor for $2625.
I figure thats an outrageous amount.
so i have the part number 89540-47130 and the diagrams of the components. Has anybody tried to put a newer version of ecu in an older prius.
For example purchasing a used one from a 2007 prius....I understand that some software updates and the like needs to occur.

I read in the forum in which some vsc issues were fixed by battery unplugging v12, and other simple tasks.
During the diagnostic was the codes reset or was the problem really minor. It no longer shows up but i am wondering if this a fake fix or the issues really does not exist.

Check all the "ABS MAIN" fuses. Then the ABS relays [there are
four, I think -- two for main ECU power and two for the pump
motor]. Make sure your 12V is solid before beginning any of
    this, of course.

    1377 is capacitor malfunction.

This could be a good test vehicle of the braking backup mechanism. Do you still have hydraulic braking capability ?

Let me put starts and asterixes and exlamation points on this post. If you 12v is the original one it is likely at the very end of it's expected life. And check the fuses that Hobbit mentioned.

While it might be the ECU failure it may also be a false error report due to a low 12v battery--a frequent occurance in Priuses the age of your vehicle.

You could have the 12v tested to determine if it may have reached and unacceptably low voltage to confirm.

yes and i started driving as normal. It does not feel any different than before. But i hope i am not wrong. so i am thinking that some fuses must have been replaced and the ecu failure may have resulted from that. i will have further things in a day or two.

2005 Prius 69,000 miles. Red triangle warning light. They say I need a new ECU skid control for $2200.
Anyone able to get toyota to pitch in on the cost or cover under warranty? They say it is out of warranty.

What DTC was logged? Any driveability issues or warning lights on besides the master warning light?

That's what the invoice said. Sounds like ECU needs to be replaced on many of the 2005

Thanks for the details, diagnosis seems plausible. If you can DIY maybe you could buy a salvage unit.

Get in touch with Steve Woodruff at <[email protected]>
He may be able to get you a used one. He could also possibly test yours if you remove it and send it to him. If you can't remove it yourself, you could bring it to your local garage to have it removed, and the replacement installed. Off course, if you are in the bay area, you could bring it to Lucious Garage www.lusciousgarage.com/ they should be much less expensive then the dealer.

You are not the only one - I too have experienced this - read my post for further info (search on Skid Control ECU under GII forum)

Unfortunately installing other skid unit dint work, toyota gemca asked me that MAY be skid unit ecu I provided was not functioning alright as they dont have any way to check whether its working or not. Then they said.. May be its because of some problem in Wires to gear box OR something wrong with Skid unit relay. To figure this out I need to pay cost of 4-5 hours of labor @ 130£ per hour...one more interesting thing, they said Even if they would have used the New part and it dint work, I had to pay 1900£ still. Now they suggested me to try Relay change first, then wiring, then going for a BRAND NEW skid unit. I am really confused and frustrated as I have spent 320£ with No results at all.
I went through other forum and followed the procedure to check battery at Weird stuff happening? MPGs dropping? Test The Battery | PriusChat

and found problem in my battery.
This problem started when I left my car unattended for a month in November to Dec in London and temp was very low. Battery was flat when I returned and I jump started it instead of changing the battery.
    Results for battery are
    1- Battery 11.9v , IG off
    2-Battery 11.3v, IG on
3-Battery 14.1v, IG on, PKB ON.
    Any suggestions please?

Start by replacing the 12V battery to ensure that all ECUs have a source of reliable power upon start-up. I agree with the suggestion that you should replace the relay next.

You may end up spending much more than 320£ before you are done, as the skid control system is not easy to figure out and the dealer tech will rely upon parts swapping at your expense, to see what works.
