Still pretty uncommon in the Louisville area. I drove a 2003 Gen 1 for years without any notice (everyone thought it was a Corolla). Now they just stare at the new "big red one" (my grandson has named it "Fireplug"), and then look stunned as I pass them going 80....and accelerating up a hill on I64. But I see more all the time.

Up here in Anchorage, AK I see about 10 a day on my regular 3 mile commute to and from school and definitely not the same ones. They are gaining popularity and soon they will rule the world!!! :D:D:D

Here (population around 15,000) I see a few Gen 3s*. There's our red and then at least one white, one blue and a black. However, I see plenty of Gen 2's. I've also seen at least 3 Gen 1's, 2 of them used for pizza delivery.

    I've only seen a few Insights-II. I've seen 1 Insight 1.

But overall this is still pick-up and SUV country.

However, early this month we drove somewhere (about 50 miles away) to have dinner with some friends. I ended up pulling into a parking spot in front of the restaurant next to another red 3. I figured our friends couldn't miss us when they arrived. :D

    * From the US point of view.

I have actually waved at a couple of Prius owners as a total joke to amuse/irritate my wife.

Can't say I'm looking forward to any further increases is gas prices, but I am somewhat concerned with the political correctness of parking my new Gen III beside my 2002 Miata.

I look at it this way ...

The 2nd Gen Prius sold in large numbers with higher gas prices and strong economy ...

The 3rd Gen Prius is quite a bit better car ...

    As the economy rebounds ...

3rd Gen Prius on every corner. :D

Now that I have one I am in fact surprised they are not selling in bigger numbers. If you look at their cost and then the ridiculous mileage they get they are quite attractive--and that's IF you run the numbers. If you don't and are "OMG oil prices!" then knee-jerk should all but commit you beyond all else to buying one.

Here in Central Maine Priuses are not that popular -- it is the land of big trucks and big SUVs. Big trucks prove the manhood and a huge SUV with a little woman yapping on her cell phone associates with prosperity. :) :) :)

I would guess, Prius is a despised vehicle here: something foreign, unknown and weird. :) :) Today when I saw the *Wow* glances of 3 high-schoolers in my rearview mirror when I was silently navigating through the parking lot by them -- it is a novelty. I felt like a celebrity! :) :) :) :)

However I see more and more of them in the streets... Maybe it will be a common vehicle and not a head-turner. :)

Here in Laguna Niguel, CA I see a few Gen III but a lot more of the older versions.

Gen II's are more prevalent than Gen III's around Minneapolis. The GF & I did a trip last summer to Keokuk Iowa and counted 81 Prius's along the way there. It's like a game for us spotting them :D

Near my district there are at least 6 Prius; the most of them are Prius 2 and maybe 2 or 3 Prius III with mine.
But, more and more cabs are driving Prius III : all white.

I'm now seeing more Gen III's in our area.

I have not seen a Prius cab around here yet which is surprising. With the average miles a cab does per year in this area (many operating 24/7), the Prius would seem to be a no-brainer. Cabs around here operate like the airlines, idle time = no revenue.

There are lots of Prius cabs around here. Many of the cabs that work at Seattle-Tacoma International are Prius. Another major source of many Prius you see on the road around here is that larger government agencies- the state, big cities, counties, universities, etc.- have been purchasing them as fleet vehicles for several years.

In my travels, I have always thought Cambridge, Mass. must be the prius capital of the world. It seems like every fifth car. The others are Volvos, Camrys, Land Rovers and MBs!:)
