Have had my 2010 Prius IV for about 24 hours now.. Actually, we have two - my wife and I each bought one! Love it so far but here are a few things I noticed: 1. I miss auto-on headlights. My old 2003 Avalon had them and that's probably the thing I miss most. 2. Does anyone else find the red in the displays on the MID hard to see? I would prefer they used either brighter red or just went with the same white color used everywhere else. Other than those two things, I love the car so far!
Who got the higher package; you or your wife? I believe that you can leave the head lights on when you turn the car off snd they will automatically turn off in 30 seconds. I also believe that this means they will work like auto-on when you start car. Enjoy your Prii and welcome to this site. I a certain you will find it to be helpful.
We got identical models - well, different interior and exterior colors.. Strangely, her's came with Bridgestone tires and mine came with Yokahamas, so I'd say I got the higher package Yes, I thought about leaving the lights on. That would give me daytime running lights and something like the old auto-on functionality I had..
Oh yeah, this site is great.. Already done a couple hacks and ordered over $100 worth of LED replacement bulbs for the cars
On my 2009, if you leave the headlights on all the time, they will extinguish when you turn off the car, which is good. What is bad is that if you run with headlights on, it's assumed that it is night time, and the MFD is automatically dimmed. This makes the MFD hard to see during the day. They should have put in a sensor so that the car would know it is not night time. [You can access the MFD control panel to manually re-enable the MFD's brightness, but you will have to do this every time you start the car during day.]
...and the NAV will be in night mode with a black background. There isn't much regen so you aren't missing anything. IMO the primary display is the 1 minute bars. For real instumentation buy a ScanGauge & for better FE inflate your tires. Enjoy the cars.
I have read Prius Chat since purchasing my 2010 Prius II November 28th, thought it was about time I registered. I also own a 1994 Volvo 850 that got me through the winter, as it has snow tires. I was afraid to drive the Prius at first, in fact it sat in the garage for days at a time while I clung to the familiar Volvo. However, I've grown to love it and the great gas mileage, which was why I bought it. No problems so far. This forum has been very helpful in familiarizing myself with the car; Prius owners sound like great people!
I thought that maybe toyota didn't do DRL because it would have been hard to hit the 50mpg mark wasting all that electricity.
