i recently got a 2007 prius and have heard that you can connect the iphone 3g and 3gs to it through bluetooth and have it play music, but i cant seem to figure out how. If anyone know plz leave a comment or has any suggestions for wireless audio.
You cannot, AFAIK. Even w/the nav system, the Bluetooth support in the 2nd gen Prius (04 to 09) doesn't support A2DP music streaming. That got added on the 2010 Priuses (w/Bluetooth) and some Priuschat members are doing it w/theirs. I've personally gotten it working w/my iPhone 3G thru various BT headphones and a Lexus HS 250h.
i have an 07 prius and using a 3gs... just get an aux input cable to listen to music. use bluetooth for calls only.
I notice the Iphone has a 160k maximum output for mp3 music while the Ipod has a 320kbit maximum, MP3 is bad enough but to cut the possible bit rate in half, well ymmv True you need the dice interface to run the Ipod or Iphone (gen2) but still... Right, the op is asking about bluetooth, worse yet
I believe both. (I don't use my iPhone for listening to music much, capacity is too limited. I use my iPod for that.) IIRC, iPhone should suspend the current song and the car's MFD should go to the ringing screen.
Got it. Thanks. Speaking of iPhone capacity, using iTunes' Smart Playlist feature would reduce the need to replicate your entire library onto the phone. You get a new playlist automatically every time you sync up. Pretty powerful and cool.
SPLs I'm well aware of smart playlists, have over 2 dozen of them and have been using them since my 4th gen click wheel iPod. I sync 1 SPL w/my iPhone 3G which syncs a VERY tiny subset of my music (my top rated songs). My iPhone 3G is only 8 gigs and I reserve most of its space for videos since it's a better video player due to larger screen than my 6th gen 80 gig iPod Classic. My music collection is 13 gigs and my podcasts are 11 gigs. Neither will fit on my 8 gig iPhone 3G.
