The Associated Press: AP sources: Daimler to pay $185M settlement Obama administration now goes hunting for Mercedes Benz. Doesn't it seem a parallelism with the latest "witch hunt" with Toyota? Bad times for no-USA manufacturers.
man, $185M fine for putting money in a US bank, when none of the bribes were made in the US or to US officials. That's the scam!!!
MB has always been paying the US gov't. They've been fined several times for emissions or CAFE issues. Ferrari and Lambo are in the same boat. I guess that's the cost of doing business in the US.
Perhaps Daimler gets put in the dog house for flushing Chrysler down the toilet. Look for Fiat to get the crosshairs trained on them when they pull out as well.
MB was convicted under long standing US law where it is a US crime to bribe anywhere in the world if you also sell inside the US. Since there is a law against US manufacturers for bribery inside and outside the US, this puts non-US companies on the same footing.
Unrelated to bribery, as an FYI, http://www.nhtsa.gov/staticfiles/DOT/NHTSA/Rulemaking/Articles/Associated Files/CAFE_Fines.pdf is a list of CAFE fines paid.
If I quote malorn I'd say: "... DOOMED DOOMED I tell ya ... this is only the beginning of the cover up ... the beginning of the end ! ..." Oh wait, that's only reserved for Toyota. .
