I have a 2004 Prius with the 6 CD changer, tape deck and navigation system. The CD system died - it doesn't play or eject the CDs in it. I don't listen to much music, so I don't want to invest in great sound. I like the CD system to listen to audiobooks when I travel long-distance. (I know...I'm boring) I don't have an iPod or a fancy phone. (I'm also technically obsolete.) And I don't think I could do the installations myself without a coach. (Is that 3 strikes and I'm out?) If you think there's any hope for me, I would appreciate specific (and simple, easy to follow) advice on what I should do. I would be open to an iPod, if I knew just how that would work in the car. Can you get books on tape instead of CD? Along those same lines, my kids use a cassette adapter to plug their iPods into into our '98 Civic. If you have a portable CD and one of these adapters, you could use this for "books on CD". This doesn't address fixing you CD player, but it may get you up and listening to books again.
Yeah, I probably wouldn't bother spending money to get the CD player fixed unless one can get a salvage part real cheap. I hardly ever use my CD player as I almost always use my iPod in my car. (Not knowing how much/many music/CDs you have) Consider getting a iPod Nano or iPod Classic and using a tape adapter. If you're in a budget, consider a refurb at Refurbished iPod - Apple Store (U.S.) (lower left of store.apple.com). Don't buy the iPod Touch if you're looking for a good value for the capacity you get.
