While giving my teenage daughter a driving lesson, she scraped the side of a curb pretty good and blew out a tire. I have been calling some local automotive stores (including Sears) and no one has the Yokohama Avid tire. Some said they can't find any record of any tire like that. Does the tire still exist? Is it only available at Toyota dealers? I only have 3000 miles on the tires and don't want to replace 2 or 4 tires.
I have seen some Gen III Prius, new take-off 15" wheels and tires on ebay. Be certain to keep your old TPMS module so you don't have to pay an extra $75 for dealer reprogramming.
No, they don't, but they have agreements with tire dealers in most areas to install your tires for a reasonable amount. I was going to use their local guy, but my Toyota dealer beat their price handily. They installed and balanced four 17" tires for about $60. I figured they understood the sensor better than most. Get the tire from Tire Rack (if you want), then get the price from their correspondent dealer and see if your local dealer will match it. Mine beat it. It took about two or three days for the tires to get to me from Tire Rack.
i blew one of my tires a month into owning my pri and only one Toyota dealer out of the 7 or so I called had it in stock. Most dealers did not even know what kind of tire was on the Prius and I was being quoted 2 -4 weeks from some. The dealer that I was able to purchase my replacement from had it in stock because they ordered two extras to be prepared for anyone in my situation. All toyota dealers IMO should be required by the parent to have this foresight..
