Should I still buy a Prius in wake of recall? At a reduced price?

eventhough I so want to pick one up now, I decided to wait, it won't hurt but maybe i'd gain! the truth is, most people who have already bought will tell you to go for it, but why risk??? you don't want to end up with a bad buyer's remorse a month or two down the road. In worst case, you'll be driving a new Prius in a few months for the same price you would pay now.

there's just so much uncertainties right now, i rather wait till the dusts settle down. just my .02.

 

If you want the car but fear the future why not lease? I got a zero money down sign and drive with 15 k miles for 36 months for $333.00 on Prius II...Not bad considering I will save $100.00/ month in fuel over my previous ride so for me it is like a $233.00/ mo payment...No depreciation to worry about...No down payment...No out-of pocket costs.

 

Tonight's AAA price for a V-AT is $31,310 which is under invoice. MSRP is $34,000. Decide for yourself if this is a GREAT deal. Dealer is in Maryland. The entire market is depressed and I'm sure other vehicles from other manufacturers can be found below invoice but I'm not interested in looking. Welcome to my world.

 

Your world must rock. Unfortunately in many areas, if you bring that AAA price into a Toyota Dealer with your cute lil AAA card and a printed AAA invoice, they'll just shake their heads and laugh. This was my experience pre-recall. Maybe things will change and they'll meet you half way.

But AAA does not sell cars. Toyota does.

 

If you believe the media mumbo jumbo against Toyota, then stay away and let someone with more intelligence sweep up the deals. You can pay full price in a few months or a year when Paris Hilton does something stupid and takes the TV coverage away from Toyota.

 

That's because you can't go into one dealer and say, I really want to buy this car, but I'll only buy it for this price I saw on the internet. They know you want to buy the car at that point, they don't have to try that hard to make you pay out the nose for it.

I used invoice price printouts and true dealer cost printouts to make my point, and I even compared the numbers to their own computers to prove to them they were right.... but I still had to go to 3 dealers and make them fight over a sale.

 

You'd better hurry up and buy a Prius while the discounts are there with many dealers.
If the media decides all this stuff about the Prius is phoney, the deals will vanish.

 

Be prepared for numerous annoying rattles in your car. I regret buying my 2010 Prius. It's driving me crazy!

 

But, what does Honda offer to match the 2010 Prius?

Insight? pffft. No way. The 2010 Insight doesn't come close to matching even the Gen2 interior room.

Fit? Nah. They're pretty good I'm sure, but I don't fit in a Fit.

CR-V .... pass. Couldn't they just make fold down rear seats instead of 'fold and tumble' rear seats? (which are lame)

Element ... uh ... no.

Honda builds some quality cars, but in terms of a roomy, sporty 4 door hatchback with more than a 1.5L gas engine ... Honda fails the test.

 

Here's why you ought to buy a Prius ... I assume you want a 4 door hatchback, good on gas

um, Subaru Impreza. Sat in one today. Nice interior, sporty 4 door hatchback. Less cargo room. low-mid $20k's .... 20 / 26 MPG's eeek.

2010 Insight? Tiny rear seat room! miniscule!

Fit? if you can fit in it ... decent contender.

Mazda 5? They remind me of some type of medical vehicle. No like. Mazda 3 hatch .... terrible rear seat room.

There's nothing quite like a Prius. New Prius' are selling and will continue to do so. The interior room, fuel economy, looks, features are very good.
