I bought it! =) and im loving it! Hello. Nice to meet you all. I have been looking around the forums for about two days trying to find some useful info on the life expectancy of a 2005 Toyota Prius. There are a few older threads ive read and the sticky "Reliability information" thread that helped quite a bit. Ive been looking for a used prius at a decent price for well probably 4-5 months now and I think I found a good one in my area. As much as the info Ive seen has helped me think about it I would really like to hear what you prius owners have to say about the car i found. 2005 Toyota Prius, $8,977 - Cars.com Maybe i should buy it? or maybe I should wait till a better deal comes up on the market? I started by looking for ones with less then 80,000 miles on them, but I see them and ask around everywhere and they wont budge on the price so i lowered my expectations and started looking at one with higher mileage and found this. Check out the CarFax, it seems that its been well cared for. Thank you for your time, -Thomas My situation. [Rant] Im only 18. I have about 7.5k saved and sure I could save a bit more but im about to quit my job in about two and a half months so ill have around 10k (if im careful with my spending) by the time i leave. I work for a bunch of slave drivers as a welding temp (weeee first job) no vacation, no sick days, 7 days I can have off a year, 10.5 work hours a day, and I work mandatory overtime Fridays. Ive only ever had 3 voluntary overtime Fridays in the 8 months Ive been there, Ive said no every time, lol. Im going to college anyway so i cant stay even if it was a nice job or they hired me, but they "cant" hire me or any of there 20+ temps they have now because they've "closed the books" so whatever. [/Rant]
It looks nice from the pictures. The one thing that would concern is that the mileage is over the 100k mark and as such the car is probably out of Toyotas warranty. I notice the advert states 1 years warranty with the car - just make sure it covers a hybrid system and batteries! You should probably be ok at 108k miles as some on here have run their Prius upto 250k+ on the same set of batteries, but equally you don't want to get it home and find a fault a few weeks later that is excluded by the warranty.
Buy it Looks like a really nice used car. One owner, appears to be highway miles for the most part, and regularly serviced at the same dealer. I'd jump all over it at that price. Obviously see if you can knock them down some, but looks like a nice one owner car!
Hi Tom, I have almost the same car. I'm not sure what's in a package #4. I'd guess that one is good for at least another 100,000 miles. The car looks good and the price doesn't seem bad.
seems like its in good condition. mine is about to hit 125,000 now. driven the damn thing so much but haven't had too many problems with it. seems to be a reliable car
So I went and checked it out at the Toyota dealer today, I just got back actually. I was impressed with how it felt driving. Ive only ever been inside one once as the passenger. I wasn't digging the rear view what with it being a hatchback. It wasn't bad, I guess thats just something im going to need to get use to. and the tires mite reed replaced soon in the front at least. they said they mite be able to do something about that (though what exactly they can/will do i cant say). The warranty on it currently only covers the power tran (so just the engine) so the guy I talked to told me to think of that as if there was no warranty on it at all since they have never heard of a case of the engine itself breaking down. He also said if anything was to happen out of warranty it would happen to the battery (I pretty much knew this). He also said a new battery would only be about 2500 witch is lower then what i thought they cost now. Though im not really conserned with it dieing on me. It also has the navigation pack in it... do not know about the bluetooth, but i really didn't mess around with it because thats not really a issue. I think im going to buy it =)
Looks like a good deal on the car. Nav package = having bluetooth. I like having at least the bluetooth package. All in all, looks damn good. However, there's one thing I'm curious about: Car fax: 02/05/2010 108,386 Online Listing Vehicle offered for sale 02/08/2010 102,647 Cain Toyota Scion BMW North Canton, OH 330-494-8855 Cain Toyota | New Toyota dealership in North Canton, OH 44720 Oil and filter changed chassis lubricated INCONSISTENT ODOMETER READING
Ya for some reason someone reported the wrong odometer reading in the car-fax, but you can see the picture on the site of the odometer and I did go check out the car so I saw it for myself. Its listed as 108,386 and the picture also shows it as this, but the car-fax says it has 102,xxx something. Im looking for one of those company's where you can buy insurance for car maintenance alone. There are like 2 commercials I remember, but I cant think of the name of ether of them (I think one starts with a M, mobo, mibo... I have no clue). Anyone have a clue? Regardless I do believe im going to buy the car tomorrow! =)
I bought an 05 with Nav, but with 32k miles back in September. I'd be sure to search for hobbit's advice on what to service around 100k miles for preventative maintenance.
Hey congrats!!! That's great. I responded before I got to the bottom of the thread. Did you ever find the insurance company? How about the tires? What did the dealer do for you?
Never found the insurance company I was looking for. I saw a few others that didn't really specialize in after warranty maintenance and the cost wasn't so great. Im not too concerned with it though. They took of $250 for the tires and I have family that runs a auto parts store, so ill be able to get them cheap. I absolutely love it. Ive been showing it off at work and Ive already been stopped in public by 2 random people that asked me about it .
