What car does your Prius replace?

My '10 replaced a '98 Nissan Pathfinder SE w/ 180k+ mi.

Wife was original owner.

Interior was quite used and abused.

Fuel tank had a tiny leak.

Front end steering geometry was way off which caused uneven tire wear on the front tires, further aggravated by a tired suspension resulting in scary wiggles at highway speeds at times.

Transmission was notchy but engine otherwise was bulletproof.

All negatives conspired to result in 8-10mpg.

Got lucky and traded her in on the Cash for Clunkers deal.

Was happy to see her go.

Wife still hasn't forgiven me for trading in her car. (She wanted another SUV. Go figure.)

 

My "new" 2005 replaces a 1999 Mazda Miata.
For those who think the ride is harsh, seats are uncomfortable, or that the road noise is too loud in the Prius, it is wolds above the Miata. P.S., if you reply to this post, you may have to shout at me cause I'm pretty much deaf from commuting on the Interstate in a Miata for 6 years.

 

replaced my 04 prius with an 08. will replace that with a plug in unless i break down and buy a 10 first!

 

I bought a 2007 Prius last Saturday; this car replaces my 2003 Camry which was running perfectly and had 112,000 miles. I actually didn't even plan to buy a car at the time - I ended up at the dealership because of a flat tire and two cigarette lighters that weren't working (I accidentally fried them by plugging in my air compressor which apparently had developed some major issues). Anyway, a salesperson approached me, and 3 weeks later after much negotiating and a few test drives, I said goodbye to the Camry and drove home in my dream car! I have longed to have a Prius for at least 5 years, and it still doesn't seem real that I have one! I am loving my MPG's now!

 

The Prius replaced:

• 2003 Buick Century w/200,000 and not a dime of maintenance costs.
• 1999 Voyager w/225,000 miles

So far... we're enjoying the savings.

 

Traded an '02 Trailblazer for a '10 Gen III. I'm 6'6", 235lbs and I'm very pleased with the driver comfort level, amount of storage for tools I carry with me and, of course, the mileage.

 

I replaced my !997 GMC Yukon with the 2008 Prius. Gas milage plus relability was my main concern.

 

Somewhat replaced a 2001 Honda Civic Coupe with 120k+ miles on it. I still have my honda parked in the driveway, but have only driven it once since buying the Prius!

Reasons were because I wanted a hybrid drivetrain to convert into a DIY plugin. Toyota and Ford were the only ones with the acceptable drivetrain, and there was no way in hell I was buying a Ford, so the Prius was the logical choice!

 

1999 F-150 was my daily not it only has towing duties.

 

My 05 Prius replaced a 96 Tercel. I love having creature comforts again, such as power windows, a stereo that sounds slightly better than a circa 1910 telephone, and... ya know... working heat (kind of essential for Ohio winters)

 

Traded my Toyota Avensis 2.0 turbo deisel for a '08 Prius "T4" (UK spec)
Much better fuel economy and the cockpit is not so cramped...

 

I just replaced my 2006 Honda Civic LX Coupe with a 2007 Prius. I wanted better gas mileage (though the Civic was pretty decent at 24/36), and more room.

 

2001 VW new beetle. I was extremely surprised when this car only got 19mpg!

I am actually relieved the dealership is giving me $3500 for it, even after I paid $6k to pay it off last year.

 

A 2004 Volvo S60R. 300hp, AWD, 6 speed manual, Brembo brakes. I don't miss this hunk a junk one bit!

 

Old subaru outback wagon which served me well for nearly 300K miles. I'll miss her, and she's doing duty for someone else now. That was a great car.

 

My Prius replaced an Audi A4 2.4. I'm now spending 1/3 on fuel compared to the the Audi and it's at least as spacious, plus it appeals to the engineer in me. It's like being able to take a computer for a drive ;-)

Also, I spent thousands of $$$ on repairs with the Audi during its final 2 years, even though it hadn't even reached 100,000 km yet. It was leaking various liquids and the dealer couldn't figure it out. One thing broke after another. It was OK only when it was less than 3 years old -- I had been much happier with previous Audis.

 

I had a 1994 Saturn SL1. It was a great car! I had 210,000 miles on it before it gave up on me. It also got 35 mpg average in its heyday. I am happy with my new Prius though!

 

'99 Hyundai Elantra at 135k miles replaced by an '05 BC Package with 32k miles. 10 years with no center arm rest SUCKS! Oh, and the mileage increase from 42 MPG to 60 didn't hurt either.

 

My Prius replaced a Mercedes Benz, I love that car, very powerful, comfortable, & never had a problem with it but only got about 12 mpg on city driving, on highway was about 22 mpg. On a full 21 gal tank I will usually get 220-240 miles to empty on city driving. I purchase the Prius in 08 when the gas price was about $4.75+ gal which was costing me $100 to fill up on the Benz.
