Hi Everyone, I just wanted to check in and tell everyone how much I am loving my new Prius, and to say thank you. I got 59.9 MPG on my regular commute to work yesterday. This is my best ever! The ride is 18.5 miles, and it was 57 F. It is a mix of back roads and highway and it is hilly terrain. I drove between 55 and 60 MPH on the highway (ok, I dropped down to 51 a few times!) My car has approx. 1375 miles on it so she's not even broken in yet. On my trip home, I got 56.5 MPG. It was 41 F and I had the heat on low 70's with just a little fan. My previous best on this commute was 58.1 MPG in very similar conditions. I have been practicing the techniques of P&G and coasting to get my mileage up there. I want to thank all of you who have been posting your tips and techniques as these have helped me greatly. I continue to study some of the longer discourse on the subject of increasing MPG's and I cannot wait until the really warm weather gets here to see how high she can really go! So, I really do LOVE MY PRIUS! And thanks to all of you again, Charlene
Similar here. I'm on my fourth week with my Prius. Normally, my morning commute has lower mpg than my evening commute. (Warmer afternoons combined with an overall drop in altitude from work to home.) Yesterday's average (morning + evening) was 56.9 (according to the Prius display, of course). But this morning, I was actually able to beat yesterday's average and get 58.9. And the evening commute should only make it better still. [edit: Got 64.3 mpg that evening. Yay!]
Welcome to the busiest car fanatic web sight in the universe. I love my Prius too. Too bad the media has taken on Toyota. I average about 51 mpg.
I am just about opposite you as my commute starts in the afternoon and ends after midnight or so. You are getting great MPG's after such a short time! I was still in the high 40's after my first 4 weeks. :cheer2:
That's great you guys! I'm slowly getting there! I've been averaging 44-45mpg. I did have a couple moments when I hit 50.2mpg and above, but I'm a bit of a speed demon and being in CA the PWR mode button is hard to resist, especially with people sneaking up behind you and I'm not even in the fast lane!
I like to drive fast too and was driving too fast in my last car. The Prius has helped me to slow down a lot! This is a good thing for me all the way around! I think you can still do pretty good even at higher speeds depending on what they are of course. The fast accelerations are what really eat up the gas though. Slow and steady up to higher speed and then holding still does really good on the highway esp. if the road is flat.
