I have not heard of any sudden reverse acceleration until today. Any others out there? See here for the full news story: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...ad-accelerator-pedal-stick-3.html#post1076046
Keep in mind that when in reverse Prius is -very- gutless. It has 40 HP, as reverse is electric only. So I find the report very suspicious. Even mud or a steep hill can stop the car. I'm suspecting he was standing on the accelerator and not the brake.
Exactly. My reply in post #3 was in response to David's comment. It would not be easy to put your left foot on the accelerator pedal by mistake.
You can get a Key Logger for a computer that records all keystrokes for later review. Perhaps the Prius, and all vehicles, should have Pedal Loggers to sort these events out. I think that this guy is going way overboard to keep from admitting that he pushed on the accelerator to back up, then pushed on it harder to stop!
Flight Data Recorder. Perhaps we should also have cockpit voice recorders to document backseat drivers. Tom
Maybe we could also do like they with commercial vehicles in the European Union- constantly record speeds too. Our tour bus driver got a ticket for going a bit over the speed limit several hours earlier. Not sure how it works but it seems to keep the trucks and buses from speeding!
The side seat driver is the one that gets me. The cockpit voice recorder could be a bad idea, or a good idea...
Perhaps a video camera capturing pedal inputs too... That way if they say "but i pushed the XXX pedal" and the electrical black box says you pushed the "YYY pedal", you can prove it by playing back which pedal the user pushed.
