has anyone upgraded a base model with a nav system or camera to the stock system?

I recognize this is probably dangerous as hell since the computer controls the car, but I'm just wondering if anyone has attempted or done this.

It's not dangerous. The MFD and Nav system are completely unrelated to the ECUs controlling the car. It's not like the Prius has one PC running MS Windows.

As for modifying the base software for Nav, it doesn't work that way. You need a whole new MFD with all of the Nav hardware.
