Negotiated for it for 24,000, out-the-lot (with all fees and registration)
4.2% APR through Toyota financing (beat my rate from Chase)

Ron Tonkin Toyota offered $24,237 for the same spec

Probably will have better deal later on in March but i'm ok with almost 10% off MSRP.

First time poster, just joined. Being a bike commuter, I decided to make my weekend transport greener. So I jumped head-first into the Prius world, buying a car in a matter of days. I suspect I could have done a lot more research, but I needed something quickly and painlessly. I looked at the Prius when it first came out, but wasn't ready yet.

I got a used, Certified-Pre-Owned 2008 Prius with package 2, and 37,800 miles. It has alloys, smart-key, and a few other goodies.

I paid $15,899, plus the $100 processing fee. Tax and 2-year registration, plates, title, etc., added another $1100 or so. I was pursuaded to get the Platinum Extended warranty (extending warranty to almost all components for 7yrs/100k), for $700 (they first quoted me $1300 and then $1100, LOL). That gives me another 4.5 years and 62,000 miles fully covered. I made a half-hearted attempt to bargain down, but the sales person used the "I have another buyer ready to go" line, and I gave up. I did not really have the stomach to bargain this time. Total was $17,140 plus the $700 certified platinum warranty.

I think I could have done better, but I got the color I wanted (gray), and the full warranty gives me some peace-of-mind. There were not many cheaper cars in my area (DC-Annapolis), per my autotrader search. How was my deal?

Jeff S sounds like me and you are in the same boat:)

    My first post,

    I got a 2008 Prius Black #3 package w/ 30,025 miles for 15,995 w/ no dealer fees + tax = 16,714 from the local Toyota dealer.

They claimed they had 16,200 into it but it had been on the lot for close to 60 days so they were willing to take a loss. Don't know if this was BS or not.

I got the extended coverage, platinum something or other for certified vehicles for 1,050 so you did better on that. they started at 1500 though. Seemed like 15 buckish/mo to not worry as much is a good deal.

53 mpg so far, like the car even without the mileage though so I am very happy:)

Darkness, I've had my car one day!
You got a better deal by having lower mileage and getting a package 3. We paid the same price though, $15995 or so.

Regarding the Platinum warranty, I did very little research. I knew it was Certified Pre-Owned, and that covered some components for 7/100k. When I got to financing, I learned for the first time about the Platinum warranty. Being a high tech car, I figured it was worth getting a warranty, but I instinctively rejected the first offer of $1300. The finance guy claimed that the retail price of the warranty was $2050, but that he would give it to me for his dealer "cost" of $1300. I rejected it. He used the trick where he said he would go to another room and check, and came back with $1100. I rejected that too. He then asked if I had some other price in mind, and I said, yes, for $500 I'd do it. Then, after completing most of the paperwork, he actually surprised me by coming back and saying that since I said it was worth $500, he could do it for $700. That surprised me since I was prepared not to get it. For $700, it was worth it IMO.

I just bought a Prius IV with the Solar pkg and mats for $22,100. It broke down to $803 under invoice, $6300 for my 05 Prius with 165K, and a loan rate of 3.99%. I thought it was a good deal, especially with the 2 years of free maintenance now offered to current owners.

2010 Prius III w/ Nav, Ribbon Blue Metallic from Broadway Toyota (recommended - it was a great, hassle-free experience) in Portland, OR.

    MSRP @ $26,380.
Out the door @ $24,200, including DMV, fees, floor mats, etc. Also qualified for the 2-year TAC Scheduled Maintenance Program.

Negotiated online with Ron Tonkin Toyota, Wilsonville Toyota, Beaverton Toyota, and Broadway Toyota.

    No trade-in, 1.9% financing for 48 months.

All said, I think I got a pretty decent deal.

Here in Northern California, I put three dealers through the ringer. Definitely the best strategy is to get pricing via the Internet. This puts things in writing and you can print it out and show the other dealers if you need to.

One Toyota in Oakland charges $200 over invoice for Prius.
Toyota of Sunnyvale charges invoice for Prius.
Toyota of Vallejo charges $300 under invoice for Prius.

These prices are before the $750 rebate/3.99% finance incentive (i.e., you can get another $750 discount if you don't take their financing).

Funny thing is, in the end, I bought from One Toyota in Oakland, because they are a stone's throw from my home. Besides that, their "One Toyota" policy is a "One Price" policy: They put the discounted price right on the sticker on each car, and they refuse to negotiate. They are straight-forward, the price the offer is the price they sell, and when I signed all the papers, they offered me the add-ons one at a time (warranty, Lojack, etc.) and they used ZERO pressure. Overall, I can vouch that they provide an EXCEPTIONAL purchasing experience for Northern Californians.

Hay 1051, yes you can. You can choose to assign the rebate to the dealer you purchase the car from in order to reduce the OTD price. Also, you'll pay sales tax equal to your resident zip code's rate. It's a DMV hastle to buy out of state so I dont' suggest that.

My experience with Sunnyvale has been good. Lot's of inventory in the SFO region. You can probably even find one that was built before the recent price increase.

    Good Luck.

Just wanted to post a thumbs-up for Toyota Sunnyvale CA.

I was in town a couple week ago, sent inquires to several dealers in the area via their own web sites, and Sunnyvale is the only one to reply with a quote in writing. Basically Invoice - the current 750 Rebate. No haggle. Great experience. Will likely pick up a Sienna from them next year. Joe Vargas was the Rep.

    2000 Dodge intrepid ES .
Still trying to figure out if I like this Prius. Gas mileage isn't anywhere what i was told it would be.
