2010 Prius Mudguards now available in the PriusChat Shop!

Had the mud guards installed by a detail shop this week end. The instructions were fine and the guards look great. The tip about needing only two screws for the rear guards was correct.

 

What does it mean "Minor drilling required for some vehicles"? What vehicles? I thought these were for the 2010! Please advise! I do not want my car drilled if at all possible.

Quick question on the mud flaps--we're interested, but we checked with our dealer (and a 2nd one in the DC/No VA area) and gave them the Part #'s but they say that it's not a valid Part #?? The install instructions mention 2009--is 09 and 10 the same on these?

 

You may not get an answer because the people who went to the trouble of reading the earlier threads about buying the mudguards from the dealer in the UK and installing them don't want to save you the trouble of searching for it and reading it.

Then again, someone might take pity on you and answer you.

Look it up! It is not rocket science! The answers have been printed many, many times. The questions are valid, the answers are in this forum. Sorry if it is too much trouble for you. I guess your time is far more valuable than ours is.

No - you need three screws (two in the wheel well & one under the flap that screws into the plastic.

I got my flaps on today since the weather was sunny and the driveway was dry. The fronts are a piece of cake, except you need some kind of tool to remove the old plastic rivet. I used a flat-blade screwdriver and a needle-nose pliers. If I'm going to remove any interior panels, I probably should use the proper tool, shown in the instructions. What is it called, and where to get it?

With 17" wheels, tire removal was necessary for the rear flaps. That makes it much easier to force the screws into the plastic without drilling, and having that corner of the car up makes the under-car screw easier to put in. A convenient optional tool, not required, is a drilling marker that is like a hammer-driven thing, but it has an internal spring. You push it where you want a mark, it compresses the spring and releases it, making a little dimple in wood or plastic. Don't know what it's called, but I know I got it at Sears long ago--use it all the time. Also, the lower screw behind the wheel can be marked too far inboard to use the slip-on nut--have to pay attention.

This was the first time I used the supplied jack. It is more deeply buried, along with the spare, than in other cars I have owned. Remove the cargo, remove the after-market liner, remove the cargo floor, remove the accessory storage tray, remove the tray under that. All this has to go somewhere. Doing that on a road trip during weather would be an unpleasant experience.

The jack itself is typical: OK for a flat, paved surface, inadequate for an unpaved shoulder. There have been threads about better alternative jacks, so I will go search now. In the meantime, AAA is my on-the-road solution.

 

I am not sure what it is called, but I think it is a pry tool and you can get them anywhere they sell tools. Sears has a nice one but so does Northern Tools and Harbor Freight and Walmart and I think I got mine at Target, it was made by Stanley so it probably cost me about $5. I have lost about 3 or 4 of them in my garage.

I think that Advance Auto Parts has one in their tool section too, it is for removing interior plastic rivets.

I go back to this question. Spoke to the dealer and they said that flaps are not offered as they produce drag. These flaps are for 2009s. The part number listed in the Shop is actually the part number for the 2009 instructions which supports what rhhamltnh said. Question remains are these truly 2010 flaps or just 2009 flaps that you can make fit? And, why did Toyota offer flaps for the 2009 modles and not the 2010 models?

 

The PriusChat Shop offers 2010 flaps, the year is on the packaging. The online instructions indeed has a 2009 label, but the install procedure is identical for 2010.
