Hello My first post, so be gentle with me! Read somewhere that all new UK Prius's are fitted with the Goodyear Efficient Grip Tyre. (Would give you a weblink, but I'm not allowed...) I have a 2004 Prius, and wondered if anyone had any experience of fitting these new tyres to an older Prius. Regards to all
Hello fellow UK person Not sure about the Goodyears as my Prius came with Bridgestones as new. They arn't too bad and have been quoted £65 each inc fitting and vat. Not bad really for a branded tyre. I'm going to stick to branded tyres and will probably stick with these eco Bridgestones as they came with the Prius so must be good for it.
Yes, it's tempting to stay with the original tyre. But if it's fitted to the new Prius, I wondered if it was a better tyre than the Bridgestone. The German TUV did comparison tests (on a VW Golf) between the Goodyear, 'our' Bridgestone, and 3 other brands. (All marketed as 'Ultra Low Rolling Resistance Tyres') The Goodyear was the overall winner, with lower rolling resistance etc.
Oh I'll have a note of this as my fronts will be due shortly! The Bridgestones were ok but I do seem to have chewed my way through them at the front. Only done 11k miles and am down to 3mm. The Goodyear is quite expensive though and I was wondering if I should try out the Federal tyre as they're cheap and wear well. Any comments?
I'm no expert on tyres! (Which is why i put this post in...) But Federal are very much a budget tyre, and maybe your Prius is worth a better tyre? Try tyrereviews.co.uk My front Bridgestones are down to 3mm as well, and I've done 16k miles. Seems like they wear quickly!
Here in the States the base Gen II Prius uses Goodyear Integrity and the Touring uses Bridgestone Turanza's. Both are sodding awful. A recent consumer magazine review gave Hankook Optimo T727 high marks. I myself use Nokian WRG2's as I'm an a area known for harsh winters.
I have seen the positive writeups on the Nokians on here but we don't get the in the UK. I suppose we could import them on special order but I dread to think of the cost.
OK, got to jump in on this one. My 2007 just turned 38,000mi and my stock Goodyear Intergrity's still looking good. I figure another 2000mi and will change them out...thinking of the new Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max! Has anyone tried these...?
If you have gone 38,000 miles on Goodyear Integrity tires, any replacement tire should be fine. I can't imagine a worse tire; anything will be an improvement. Tom
The UK at least around me has much poorer surfaces, gravel, pot holes and cracks. I get around 25000miles from the original Bridgestones. Thinking about the efficient grips or Hankooks a neighbour (Saab driver) has recommended Accelera alphas but I think that is due to price and wear.
My May 2010 production date Gen3 II came with Assurance Fuel Maxes. Nice tires. I believe they stopped using the Lack of Integrities sometime before that.
I've seen a lot of folks knocking the Integritys here, but I got 63K miles on the OEMs on my '04, and now have 50K on my '06 OEMs, with plenty of tread left. My only complaint would be that they are noisy. However, I have read the same thing about some of the other available tires. I keep mine at around 40 psi and rotate every 5K miles. Have not needed any alignment.
