I purchased a new Prius II yesterday. Yes, I knew more things about the vehicle than the salesman, but I don't place much blame. This guy sells every model of Toyota and Scion in the house. Perhaps they should have a Prius "specialist", but that's not how the sales system works. Anyway, when I took the vehicle overnight for a test, the weather was sloppy, with some rain and slush on the road. When I got home and got out, I discovered that the driver's and passenger's door panels (the areas directly under the doors) were loaded with road crap (but the crap did not extend inside of the door gasket). I'm thinking the crap was thrown there from the front tires. This would have to be cleaned out by hand. I bet the mudflaps are a good investment.

Battery only driving. Too friggin funny!

Our salesman was actually very knowledgeable. When I first called a 2nd local dealer looking for a Camry, the guy they put me through to said I had right guy because he was their hybrid expert. He said there wasn't a Camry hybrid available anywhere on the east coast. Then he said he thought he had one Prius left if it hadn't sold the night before. I told him we hadn't thought about a Prius and he said he was on his 2nd one and it was a great car. He called me back a few minutes later and said it was available and it was a IV with nav, Barcelona Red, and Bisque leather (our favorite combo, lucky). I put a deposit on it and the wife met me there that afternoon. She drove it an liked it OK so we closed the deal.

maybe we had the same salesperson.
That is the explanation I got for B. To drive in the parking lot at the mall while you wait for your wife. Electric only

Our dealership has one salesman in particular who is most knowledgeable about the hybrids. When I bought my first one, I had to wait to pick it up until that guy was able to do the delivery, one extra day later than I could have got it. The reason was because his instructions were most complete. They had had a sales guy tell a customer about the 'B' battery only mode, and the customer returned a week later complaining of lousy gas mileage. This delivery system seems to work well for that dealership, and when I bought the new Prius last week, I went directly to the guy in the know.
Actually I have kept in touch with him over the three years, giving him articles from Prius Chat like the Stages of Operation, and taking him out for spins to show him the Scangauge, and how to pulse and glide.
Maybe more dealerships should adopt the Hybrid Specialist model.

At my dealership, the finance manager knew more about the Prius as he owned and drove one. So, my salesman, even with his training, deferred to the finance guy for a few things

"B" is easy: don't. It's only for coming down very long slopes, to avoid riding the brake. There's probably no place in NJ where you'd need to use it. Using it in other conditions does no damage but will reduce MPGs.

I picked up my Sandy Beach V l0 days ago. I drove a Prius Classic 2003 and was sad to see it go, but I love the improvements in the last 7 years. The Advanced Technology package is remarkable. I hope I can learn the auto-park features. The manual is not very clear.:)

Took delivery of my Barcelona Red Prius II today. Haggled right up to the last minute and got a really good deal ($400 under invoice then $1000 rebate). The difference in power between this and my old 2003 Gen I is amazing. Anyway, dealer got smart and farmed-in a Prius "expert" from another dealership to show me the ropes. I didn't need him. He asked me where I got so much information about my new Prius that had not yet been delivered. Guess the answer?

Purchased at Jeff Wyler Toyota in Clarksville, IN. $1000 rebate was regular $500 plus another $500 since I am already a Toyota owner. Since then, Oxmoor Toyota (OxmoorToyota.com) in Louisville is running an ad for a Prius II for $19,990 which apparently includes the regular $500 rebate. Also includes 3 years of comp routine maintenance (at around $70 for every 5,000 service, that has some real value). This may be the best offer I've seen. I assume this quote doesn't include costs for prep, fees, documentation, and anything else they will try to cram on.
