Vanity light lamp replacement

Is anybody familiar with how to open the vanity lights in the headliner over the front seats? I'd like to change the bulb to a brighter/whiter one, but I can't figure out how to get to the bulb.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I now know the whole unit doesn't pull out, so if you have any advice about how to make the light assembly tight in the headliner again, I'd love that too.

 

Thanks DanMan. I checked the usual sources and searched this site (is search wonky ir is it just me?) and could find nothing on the vanity lights. I tried slipping a small screwdriver around the edge but could find no pry-points.

It's a small mystery.

 

I'm not talking about the light cluster in the center of the ceiling, with three lights (dome and two reading{?} lights). I'm talking about the single light and switch that is normally hidden by the visor. If the switch is on and you open the mirror, the light comes on.

 

Thanks for your help, guys. I was able to find the notch in the lens cover and pop it off. I was also able to figure out how to remove the fixture so I could tighten the spring fitting so it is again secure in the headliner.

Now I just need the double-ended bulbs. I'll order them today, now that I see what I need.

I replaced the three lamps in the overhead center console, and the coutersy lamps at the bottom of each front door, with <a href=\'http://www.optauto.com/index.htm?stocknumber=RB-R103\' target=\'_blank\'> Raybright R103</a> lamps. Contrary to what Dan says, these are flat ended bulbs that slide in.

The vanity, rear dome, and cargo area lamps are double ended bulbs, as Dan describes. I think <a href=\'http://www.optauto.com/index.htm?stocknumber=RB-R104\' target=\'_blank\'>R104</a> bulbs will work in those fixtures.

They are not LEDs, but bulbs with special filements and gas which produce a brighter, whiter light. Unless a fixture is designed for LEDs, the resistor needed for (or included in) the lamp reduces it's efficiency. Blue bulbs

Hi reesdude. You might use these <a href=\'http://www.optauto.com/index.htm?stocknumber=RB-R110\' target=\'_blank\'>blue bulbs</a> in the doors. They are 168/194 like the R103s which work very well in the overhead console. You can actually read a map.

The lens and lamp assembly pops out. Gently pry from the end closest to the door latch (furthest away from the door hinge.) The unit will pop out but stay attached to the wire. Unplug the lamp from the wire (it has a plastic lever that locks it in, like a telephone cord) and you can get the lamp up to where you can play with it and replace the bulb.

Swap bulbs, plug it in, test if you want to, and pop the assembly back in the door panel. EASY!
