Update... onlinecarstereo told me the dash kit is back ordered, and they don't know when it's coming in Have to look elsewhere for it now.
Ordered another Metra one, but then decided to cover my bases and ordered a Scosche one as well. Will install whichever looks better/actually ships For those Canadians looking at Scosche... Their website won't ship to Canada, but if you phone them, they will ship it!
onlinecarstereo.com just cancelled my order for the metra. i placed the order over a month ago, but i just received the email stating that they were cancelling it permanently. i am presuming that they don't know when they will be in stock, otherwise, they wouldn't have cancelled the order.
So just to be clear, With one of these two trim plates I should be able to use any double-DIN receiver on my Model II Prius (no JBL)? Other than getting the correct wiring harness, would I need anything else? Cause if I take the thing apart and then can't make it work, the wife will kill me! (It's her car)
Will work with most (if not all) ddin's. If you want to retain the steering wheel controls you'll need a "box" for that as well.
Yes on any standard double din receivers. If you want the steering wheels controls (left side) to work you will need a steer wheel interface (SWI). PAC makes those. You will also need a wiring harness specific to Toyota and the receiver, unless you want to splice into the car harness. At a minimum that is about it.
do not know if everyone saw it in the other thread, but the delay on the metra plate is on metra's end. no retailer has them as of yet, they're still in the production stage.
Yesterday, I talked to Metra directly. According to them the product that we all are eagerly looking for, is just out last Friday. They are planning to clear-up the -4000+ stock soon. So dont give-up and keep an eye on the retailers either this weekend or early next week. Or call up Metra (800-221-0932) for an update.
I got a call this morning from my audio shop. They ordered a metra kit long time ago and finally got it. The bad news is it is not a textured surface but plain black plastic just like scosche according to them.
Let's see what the kit looks like - according to pictures, it is textured. I ordered one - but now if it isn't textured, I'll stick with my 'old school' 200 x 100mm textured surround (expensive at $80 - $100), and get the Metra 'fill in' 10mm sides. I'll call Monday. For those interested, the Toyota 55405-47080 http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...68362-p-n-55405-47080-surround-head-unit.html has perfect texture. It's 200 x 100mm (bigger than standard 2DIN), but there is a fill piece - Metra 95-8202 - to make it a 180 x 100 standard 2DIN. I'll get one, and see which works, and post the results...p-n-55405-47080-surround-head-unit.html
