Hi guys i'm new here. can anyone recommend a place to do window tinting at southern california. The dealerships price is $457 and i think is a bit pricey. Anyone know any place near Santa monica for window tinting, and how much it costs for 5 windows ? Thanks
Just so that you know that any window tinting on front windows in CA is basically citable by policemen, even though the law says 30-35%. The rear windows are OK.
i got my prius this weekend and i actually got it tinted today. i live in orange county and called around a few places. i ended up choosing this place that charged me $150 that tinted all my windows including a visor. yes, i got all my windows tinted, including the front ones, and yes, passed the legal 70% limit, and yes, it looks way better than not having it tinted at all. i believe i tinted all the rears at 20% and the front windows at 25%. they offer lifetime warranty on the tints.
I just leased my Black Prius III last week. I did 20% aka Dark on every window except for the 65% on the windshield to prevent all UV Rays all the way around the car. I've used the same guy for many years and he's done all of my relatives cars. Contact Mike at (818) 634-6453. Give him a call tomorrow for a quote and questions regarding which tint he uses. Quality and price were right for me since he comes to you and you don't have to worry about a shop joyriding your vehicle. I'll be surprised if he charges you anywhere near 400.
Google "Santa Fe swap meet" - right off the 5 and Alondra. There is a permanent tint shop - an you can get your car done while you shop... Back windows were something like $100+ They did a perfect flawless job - took around 1.5 hrs... Or go on craigslist.com. Seems the going price is in the $120 - $150 range...
if your prius is black, i suggest you go real dark in the back. i wish mine were a bit darker, but i'm still satisfied overall.
what's the percentage on the tint for the back windows? Is 35% tint the darkest allowed? I'm thinking of getting a little darker than 35% on the back windows.
Any darkness can be used for the rear and back side windows in California. There's quite a bit of misinformation in this thread regarding tinting the windshield and front side windows but you can find the correct information in various threads if you do a search within this site.
This in only true in CA if you have a rear view mirror on the passenger side (it's in the older penal code books). But then pretty much all cars built after 1995 have the passenger side mirror, but just an fyi
I got pulled so many times for front window not windshield tinted and they wlays let me go without citation, I think its all depend on their mood Also there are so many brands of tints out there I use Solar Gard QUANTUM for all of my cars it last over 14 years without fading
i would suggest looking on yelp and then calling various tint shops. consider their price and tint brand. make sure you go somewhere that has lifetime warranty on the tint. you can definitely try bargaining with them as well. also, i'm sure if you go inland more (vs. the santa monica area) you could get better deals.

A little bit of a drive from Santa Monica, but hey, Andrew Bynum got his car tinted here, can't go wrong.
