Hi...when I turn my car off, about 25% of the time I get a high sqeaky noise coming from the front of the vehicle. I took the car into the dealer twice and received the same answer. They say it is the radiator fluid going back into the reservoir and that it's "normal" in the design of the vehicle. I don't believe them. Has anyone out there had the same problem? If so, what did they do to fix it? Ken
Actually, If it is squeaky and you can deminstrate it to a Toyota tech at the dealer they have to fix it under a TSB. Attached is a link that has the Toyota issued TSB to have it fixed for no cost to the customer. http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-...-you-have-squeaky-chs-water-pump-new-tsb.html
I have a 2009... and mine does this too. Larry, do you know if there was another TSB that applies to '09?
I encountered this problem once, when I started a different car ... turned out to be a cat that used up a couple of those lives that day. Do you only hear the noise when the ICE has been running?
My manual says it's normal to hear the water pump after turning off the engine. I thought that's what that noise was.
Hi All, It is normal to hear the pump push coolant into the thermos container after shutting down the car. But it should not squeek, or make a surging squeek. It should be like a hum. As mentioned, there is a TSB and a Toyota dealer should repair it for you. There is a newer version of the pump which does not have this problem. The waranty repair is for 5 years/60K miles. My 2006 started making this noise in the winter of 2008/9, stopped making it when weather warmed up in 2009, and is making it again in the winter of 2009/10. So, if you wait too long, you might not be able to proove your car does this, before the waranty on it runs out.
Please let us know if you find something. My 2009 has been doing this since day one and I have been assuming it is normal until seeing some related threads here.
I'm not sure what ICE is but I will take larry's advice and go back to the dealer with the Technical Service Bulletin in my hand and have them replace the coolant heat storage water pump.
