Absolutely, positively yes. It's a great car, the brake issue is overblown to the point of hysteria. I believe it's happened to me and I barely noticed it, I did what anyone would do if they felt their brakes weren't grabbing I put my foot into it. The antilocks kicked in immediately on the icy road.

I suspect you are new to Prius. For myself, having owned and enjoyed a 2004, I could not envisage buying a different car. When the 2010 came out, it was no contest. Having now driven it for 7 months, my opinion has not changed. There was a braking eccentricity but that's all it was, and this has been well outweighed by the enjoyment of superb technology that creates a car that is both fun and relaxing to drive. Right now, while there may be incentives that will not last, I would run, not walk, to the dealer.

Wow when I rolled out the Prius from the showroom, just 36 hours ago, the service manager told me that please bring back 5K miles to change the oil, and the little sticker on the corner of the windshield said "5K miles"...

I sort of figure that out and it has to be this case. We all need to make money one way or the other and so are the dealers, otherwise who is going to service and take care our recalls, right :p Seriously, the profit has to come from somewhere for the whole fleet, property, salaries...

Definitely. Jeez it isn't like other cars haven't been recalled for something or other. I would buy mine again in a heartbeat. I love the car, great on mileage, stylish, solid and dependable.

Toyota woes could be boon for buyers - Autos- msnbc.com

Please note the decline in residual values of various Toyota products. ie, All cars are a depreciating asset but now that the brand has suffered a terrible blow to its single most powerful point of product differentiation the premium customers are willing to pay becomes moot.

See, this is just a further example on how uninformed, or unorganized Toyota is...they can't even get what the service interval is for the oil change? Is it 5K or 10K? Geez?! Some dealers are still saying 5K, while others say 10K? LOL. If they can't even get this right, what makes any of you think they know what they are doing on anything...

It's not just that the car is cheaply made (defects are now showing themselves after just 7K miles), it's not just that Toyota lies to it's owners, but now we learn that the dealers can't even agree on the oil service interval. And now we learn that a few people have said that the software fix/patch didn't work. The company is a mess.

I would still buy it today. I am very happy with the car and have not experienced any problems. Every manufacturer had something go wrong somewhere at sometime. Audi, Ford Pinto, Explorer, Focus Hybrid, GM, Honda air bags, just to name a few companies that have had recalls. I think the media is making more of it than it really is.
If you consider what the car does, the mileage, features, technology involved from the hybrid system to drive-by-wire, it's tweeking the technology. I had an '88 Buick Regal that had terrible brakes. Sometimes I would have to press very hard to get them to work. I had them checked many times by different dealers and was always told that they are functioning properly. Horrible.
So I would not let this stop me from purchasing a car, that until now, won all types of praise from every auto group out there.
    I'm loving mine!

I took my car to the dealer to handle some body damage the other day. The other driver's fault (don't get hysterical, my brakes didn't fail ;)). I found myself looking for the green on that was supposed to be on the lot and wondering if my husband wanted a new car.

I think that is a yes...

    From msnbc:

"According to Kelley Blue Book, bargain hunters seeking a 2010 Prius can now negotiate down to near the dealer invoice price, about $1,500 less than the suggested retail price"

Yes. I would. But I'm waiting for the 2011.

I'm buying one today (actually picking it up this weekend) mainly because....

    - I got a good deal on it, and the incentives were worth it

    - I was able to source the exact color/specs that I wanted (which was hard to do in So Cal for my model). Doubt I'll see another one like it anytime soon.

    - My commute to work is now longer (55 mile round trip), so economically a Prius is what I need. Plus I like the style & looks of the GIII model.

    - I've done my research on the brakes recall, read lots of info, and frankly it's not that big of an issue for me, especially when there's a simple fix for it.

    - Not really worried about depreciation since there's no other car out there that gets 50+ mpg right now.

Yes, of course I would, I have been driving Prii for over 10 years now.

However, if you are worried about the resale value, don't be, the "shine" has come off the Prius a long time ago. I bought my 2004 Prius on 10/29/2003, fully loaded (Package 9 back then, GPS/Bluetooth/every option that was availble that year) for about $25,000 in 2003 dollars. I traded it in a few weeks ago for about $8200, with a little less than 80K miles on it. Once a new generation is released, the previous generations drop in value fast. All cars depreciate, so don't worry about the resale value, just enjoy the car :) If the GM volt is every released, that's what I was waiting for, I just got tired of the wait, and I have much less faith in GM, having owned 2 Chevy cargo vans in the past [nothing but trouble], and a current 1994 Suburban (used for plowing snow)

If Toyota sticks by their owners and offers decent trades, I probably won't have much choice but to stay with Toyota because many other places I've talked to won't even quote a trade for my Prius. However, I expect Toyota to use the same book as everyone else and not offer any loyalty breaks, in which case no thank you.

I sure wish I could find all of the 2010 Prius being at bargain pricing. I even recall a poster saying he had lost 25% if he tried to sell it . I would happy to buy a new Prius for 25% off. That would make a II sell for $17663. Sign me up for a 1000!

Here in the Chicago area Prius pricing has not declined much if any based on my research.

They're not. There's probably some sort of dealer incentive we're unaware of, or the car has been on their lot for a while costing them money...

Would I buy a Prius in light of all of this? Yes.

Would I buy any other Toyota car? Yes.

If I had just started research today and had to buy real soon, I would probably rule the Prius out. A purchase for later in the year I would consider after seeing how everything pans out. My main reason for buying a hybrid is for the environmental reasons and gas price spikes.

I spend a lot of time researching most purchases that cost more than $100. Would I go back to big 3, probably not. Have terrible luck with GM, don't like the Chrysler lineup, and not impressed with Ford. Work bought a brand new super duty truck with duallies, etc and I think the transmission went out in less than a year. Honda, Subaru, and Mazda were in my top bracket before I went with the Prius.

I read in consumer reports many years ago that the invoice price is not really the real price. There are kickbacks and dealer's incentives and the cost of borrowing money for the inventory etc. Even the salesman do not know the actual price. Only the owner of the dealership (and a few trusted employees) really know.

Makes sense. Otherwise the salesman can talk and spy and everything and we all know how trustworthy car salesman are. This is consistent also. The salesman for a computer don't really know the actual cost of manufacturing.

So the invoice price is just another gimmick.

I'd probably still buy one. I haven't been the happiest owner...my complaints mostly revolve around the cheapish plastics and rattly interior. Otherwise its a stellar car. Amazing mileage, good cargo area, comfortable seating, and all around very functional and cool. The braking thing is a non-issue to me. I felt it a couple times going over a railroad track or something and it feels just like ABS kicking in to me. Just push the brake down, no big deal. Glad they're remedying it, but its much ado about nothing to me.
