A local review of the 2010 Prius in The Straits Times on 23 Jun 09. Hush, it's a Prius By Lee Nian Tjoe Toyota is so determined that its new Prius gets noticed that it plastered its test car with stickers to cover almost every centimetre of painted metal except the bonnet and boot. With the third-generation model looking so much like the outgoing one, especially its rear, you can almost understand its anxiety to get noticed. Hush, it's a Prius
Hi all, newbie here from Singapore. Currently driving a 2004 Corolla Altis and dying to get a Prius some day ! I've been following the tips on improving FC over in cleanmpg.com and my last tank yielded 5.6 L/100km. I visited Hybrid Motors at Ubi last week. They import the Prius, with Japanese fonts, no HUD. The basic model has no rear wiper, no fogs, no cruise control. Cheaper than Borneo Motors but still beyond my means :-( Hoping for COE prices to drop... Good to know there are a few Prius lovers and eco-conscious drivers out there in Sing. =) -ivan
Hi reeed,:welcome: Wow! 5.6L/100km in a Corolla Altis is very good!:thumb: Most Altis are getting 8 ~ 9L/100km.
Hi Vincent. I learnt heaps of tips from cleanmpg . com over the past 2 months ! But looking through my old petrol receipts, my FC in the past was perhaps 6.6 - 7 L/100km. It's a good car My daily commute covers 20 km of PIE each way. I drove a rented 2007 Prius for a week in Perth, Oz. = heaven on earth can't wait to get back inside one. -ivan
I am from Singapore and looking to buy my first car and thought of getting a prius. Went to Hybrid motors and Borneo motors to look at the prius, seem like HM is able to customise the car more while BM only have one variant. Would like to check if any bros here know if Hybrid motors are reliable? I am worried that their workshop is not up to par and not able to handle hybrid cars and other external workshops might not entertain servicing hybrid cars (correct me if i am wrong)...HM seem to be able to provide me with a better package in terms of customising the interior of the car... Thanks for any advise.
I just bought one from Borneo motors two weeks ago and honestly, I must say its the best car i have ever bought. Although its a 1.8l car it really feels like driving a 3.0l car due to the 80hp electric motor with its light weight construction I almost bought the 2.0l Camry, but for almost the same price i got a much more powerful car. Test drive it ... its really powerful. The 4.2 L/100km mileage is also true !!! Sometimes I am getting around 4.0-3.9 when traffic is goingat about 70kmh. But get to about 4.9 when traffic allows me to hit 90kmh. Just feel sad for Camry 2.0 drivers paying so much for a car that does not accelerate as well as a 1.8l Prius and almost paying the same thing !!! Camry is made in Thailand and Prius is 100% Japanese. Excellent Power, best mileage in the world and for price of a Thailand build car you get the car with the best car engineers in the world designing it. It really cutting edge stuff. Drive it u will understand. PS: DO NOT BUY THE CIVIC HYBRID ... its a fake hybrid ... the engine needs to start at every traffic light !!! PM me if u want to know more.
It took them 15 days to deliver. I got mine at 97,000 including open cat COE. The 5 years warranty is worth its weight in gold. Its a high tech car and It not something you can bring to any workshop to repair. I will be worried if the company that is supporting the warranty goes down before the warranty expires... the resale value would get hit badly. I think Borneo Motors would still be around in 5 years. (Five years in this economic climate is a very long time) Reversing is a bitch !!! The reverse sensor volume is too soft and is over come by the standard reverse warning beeping when u engage the 'R' gear. Many of the 2010 prius owners in USA are getting the agents to turn off the R gear engage beep beep so as to hear the reverse sensor. My agent says he will contact the Japanese side to see if he also turn of the Beep Beep on the R gear. Rear visibility is no good. the spoiler is always in the way. I think a reverse camera is essential. I am thinking of getting a wireless one so as not to void my warranty.
any goodies u managed to get from BM? wonder if i can bargain the price down to below 100k with the coe rising...
Dear p54321, You have received a new private message at PriusChat Forums from erniechua, entitled "Fuel Consumption tips". I too own a 3rd Gen Prius in Singapore from Borneo Motors. Got it in Nov 2009. I've been averaging around 4.9-5.0l/100km. Any tips to share about how u can get the 4.2l/100km as advertised? =) 1) use ECON MODE 2) Don't go faster then 75 k/hr 3) 80% of trip on highway ( I travel from ECP to AYE everyday -that is the profile I have when i go to work) 4) If A/C off the is around 3.9 ... only at night hint: turn to very cold when engine is on then off the a/c when you feel its too cold ... this way the a/c is on only 30% of the time . The cool in the car when a/c is off will last for 10-15 minutes at night. warm regards, Paul PS Ernie your PM box is full ... I cannot reply to u ...
Re: Gen III in Singapore any goodies u managed to get from BM? wonder if i can bargain the price down to below 100k with the coe rising.. errr... I got free floor mats ... : (
Thanks Paul, do apologize for my mailbox being full. Glad to have found another 2010 Prius owner in Singapore! I'm loving every minute of this car... I'll take note of your tips and consider them when i drive. Thanks again! =) God Bless, Ernie =)
Hi I am a Gen II Prius owner. I would say the new Prius look impressive and claims to run at better milage then the Gen II. I have been on this Gen II prius for a year and a half(got it with PI on June 08). I can see that on that MFD screen its always 24km/L minimun. And that means 4.1 L /100km. I have also learn alot about driving this car in this forum. accelerate and glide.I travel 500 - 600 km a week which i think is normal. For this car I save a lot of petrol. Definately thinking of buying a new Prius when this is really getting old and time to scrap in few years time. Now the milage is more then 40k and regualr servicing is the key to all good FC. Enjoy the Prius pals.
Went to test drive Prius last week, my friends who are sitting behind said they could hear noises from behind them (radio was off), is this noise from the hybrid battery and its cooling system?
I guess you might be saying the "tick tick " sounds that the prius makes... I think this is normal changing from battery to petrol. The prius does not run fully on battery. After a certain torque or speed it will run on both battery and petrol. Its the relays that are giving the tick tick tick sounds. This is actually according to all the bros out there. I also experience this when I first got my Prius. After driving since 2008 Dec till 2010 Jan, I changed my 12V battery, I find that the tick tick tick sound was reduced or i would say i cannot hear it anymore. Its kinda funny. I cannot explain this. Now I am using Aamron battery.
you managed to install a wireless reverse camera? i am still considering prius but the reverse part get me worried haha
