A customer came into our shop requesting a W7. He further revealed that he was wanting to go with a 13w7 and wanted it to be as loud as we could possibly make it. The other modifications that were done were: video bypass on factory screen, dvd/cd player in the location of the factory pocket in the dash, JL C5 compnents in the front doors, TR coaxials in the rear doors, suede headliner, "a" pillars, "b" pillars, and "c" pillars, replaced the stock battery with a kinetik 1400 racing series battery, added 2 smaller Shuriken batteries for extra juice to the amps, and installed 2-way alarm, remote start, and keyless entry. I personally did a great deal of research before attempting to undergo this install as I did not have much experience with doing such a large install in a hybrid. All of the information that you guys have compiled here was unbelievably helpful! Everything worked out great in the end and was INCREDIBLY loud! Let me know what you all think!
So I attempted to post the pictures but am not able to due to not having enough posts as I am a new member.
I would have chosen more efficient amps due to the tiny 12v battery and the amperage draw on the inverter but overall it looks great. The slot in the lower left corner of the amp rack. That is not a port for the sub is it? Is that a center channel speaker on the dash?
Woah...that's just about the crazy sh*t I've seen for audio in a Prius. You win the award!! I guess whoever had it done doesn't need the trunk space... And good luck getting to the spare...I have to say, it looks like a very clean install so nice job! :thumb: I'm assuming you did the fiberglassing custom on the sub enclosure? Wow...it's very impressive. That said, for me that is just way ugly...no offense. But I prefer the audio systems to be a bit more...stealth!? I guess I figure no matter how much you "pimp" the Prius, it will still look like a toaster on wheels. Plus, here in the Bronx, that SCREAMS to be broken into...anyway, well done and thanks for posting. Does the sub so close to the hatch affect the performance of it? Hmm...so many questions with this...
I was just curious if you noticed any weird port noise due to the odd shape. Looks pretty darn cool though. Was there any way to mount the center speaker from below and just add small slits in the dash to allow sound to pass or even use grille cloth over the speaker grille in a flush mount type set up like you see on some European cars?
Actually, the weird shape eliminates port noise all together. As for the dash, we actually wanted to do more molding in the future. So, for right now that's the mounting but in the future it will be different
Nice to see an "out there" install once in a while. I especially love the paint work on those Slash amps. When I got my used 300/2 it was pretty dinged up so I took it apart and repainted the black bits, but didn't have the guts to cover the original brushed aluminum. Yours looks gorgeous. Is the customer going to be showing/competing? - D
Awesome install! It's something that I would never do myself, as I *heart* my trunk space. I would love to sit in that thing, and crank up my favorite tunes, though!
