Metra just released Axxess (ASWC) Interface unit that allows you to retain all steering wheel controls (Volume, Mode & Bluetooth) with your new HU. :D & it's approx $40. Metra said it's an easy install.

Man this is perfect. Before I saw this I was pretty much stuck with Pioneer as my only brand choice for HU because the PAC-SWI is the only SWI that worked with bluetooth pick up and hangup buttons on my steering wheel. So the issue though is that I dont want a nav receiver (I have a nexus one) and the Pioneer receivers have issues with my phone (bluetooth audio doesnt work without reconnecting).

I have a brother who got a single din jvc and has had way better luck with bt with that. So maybe I'll try to get a double din JVC, and use this SWI to retain the hangup and call button.

I wonder if the voice activate button will work?

Where can I buy this? I'm installing a pioneer head unit, so I can use the normal pac, but given how technology changes, I may change the head unit again during the life of the car.

I just went with PAC because the newer versions have no delay. I have not seen reviews of this having or not having delay when the steering wheel button is pressed.

Bluetooth hangup and pickup buttons on your your steering wheel will not work if you replace the HU.

It should work with PAC SWI-JACK according to the manual. It ask you to use 560 ohm and phone buttons should work.

I will be doing my install next week so I will let you know.

Please let me know how it all works out. I have a JVC HU and the PACSW1 SWC and I have no option for phone buttons or maybe I missed it in my initial setup. I do have this option on the JVC Bluetooth not the SWC
    Regards,
    Jim

I have contacted PAC-Audio and the only SWI that work is the SWI-JACK-PS for Pioneer stereos only, and only the avic-z110bt or avic-x920bt

This bothers me because I have an Android (I work at Google) and the only stereo that I have seen it has a bluetooth problem with IS the avic-z110bt. :(

I went crazy with my stereo. I have retained the factory NAV unit for the nav of course as well as the Bluetooth. I would have replaced it all if I didn't have a V w/ATP, but need the factory screen for the parking assist. None the less if you've read any of my past posts about my install trying to use the factory unit it was a nightmare to get good sound out of it. So I went with an Alpine head unit in the center console and they used the PAC adapter to tie in with the steering wheel controls. They installed a small toggle switch to switch between the factory unit and the Alpine so I can use the controls for both pieces. Works great and now the stereo sounds just absolutely amazing. It better for as much as I spent. Didn't mean to go that far, but ran into so many problems I just had to keep pushing forward. Still hurts to think about but worth it overall now.

The z110bt has upgradable software. I wonder if parrot (the guys that do the bt on the pioneer) are working on the android. You may want to check with pioneer. Everything works on my iphone, except it doesn't show song titles on blue tooth audio streaming.

Shawnb2, I'm thinking of putting the hertz hsk 165xl (2 way, with a 28mm tweeter that can go down to 1250hz) in the front of my car. There isn't anyone with them on display here. Do you think that will sound good in my car? Are you happy with your choice?

For the Canadians here... Due to an ordering/shipping snafu, I have two ASWC's. One is going in this weekend, with a JVC deck, so we'll see if it works. The other is up for grabs. PM me if interested, and we can work out details.

Metra website suggests Bluetooth buttons are supported for the Prius (with after market HU).

Do we have confirmation the unit doesn't support bluetooth controls on the steering wheel? Your post was written around the time the product was released. I understand the firmware has been updated a few times since the product was released.

I don't like the idea of having to solder resisters to get the PAC unit to work.

edited to add I called Metra. ASWC only supports bluetooth controls located on the steering wheel if the HU supports "push to talk". The tech I spoke to said some of the Pioneer units have that feature. As far as he knows none of the Kenwood or JVC units will work with steering wheel BT controls.

Does the PAC unit have the same issue? I'd assume any interface would have an issue if the HU doesn't support the feature.

Has anyone used this module yet? I plan to do the install this weekend on a Prius2 w/Kenwood 9960.

    Thanks,

I installed Metra Axxess with Pioneer AVIC-X920BT a few months ago. If you follow Metra's instructions it's a straightforward installation.
On my basic Prius (no JBL or factory phone buttons on steering wheel) buttons work flawlessly - just as before Metra Axxess got installed (with OEM radio).

if you have any pics can you please post em? Also any suggestions that you have for doing the install would be great.

Did you cut the factory harness or made a custom modded harness to tap into factory?

    Thanks,
    Jay
