PriusPhile, perhaps I missed your original post. Exactly why did you file the complaint? What did your Prius do or didn't do?

Selling was implied. No need to get nasty and make personal attacks...

Also, we should not let our zealous love for a brand or idea overshadow the larger issues here...

Sadly, I feel that there is a bit of freudenschade in the media, from Detroit and by reactionary, gas-guzzling, gun-toting Rush Limbaugh types. They relish this recall and the cover-up by Toyota.

On a personal level, this scandal troubles me deeply. I thought I had the best car on the market... And Prius is more than just a car (thanks to good branding), it's an idea and identity for many of us. Prius is right on many levels but I feel like Toyota has sold us a bag of goods...

Lawyers? Can we use them to protect our bumpers in case of brake failure? Give me another shock cord, please, his feet are sagging :)

This is all true, but you picked the wrong crowd. Anywhere else, most people would agree with you...

I have not seen a press release or received notification about the supposed software update for pre-January 2010 vehicles currently on the road. Toyota has been SILENT. It is for the NHTSA to determine if the vehicle is safe to drive. The last braking issue I experienced was yesterday. The car is sitting in the garage.

The reason I filed the complaint with NHTSA is to provide information about specific conditions which braking drop-out occurred. I also contacted the dealership who said that they had not received any word from Toyota about a fix but they would call me when they received the information. I think providing officials and agencies with as much information as possible is a good thing. I don't think we should conceal information for the love of Prius. Public safety is greater than Prius.

Yeah, Let's file a class action lawsuit against Toyota, why those b*****ds knowingly sold me a defective product, and lined their pockets with profit. While I am at it, I am going to start a class action lawsuit against all of the fast food chains, those b*****ds sold me Big Macs, and Double Cheeseburgers and Fries, and knew they would make me fat! Why it can't be my fault, I am not to blame, I had no part in the decision process to buy a Prius or buy/eat those burgers, why it MUST be someone else's fault, and they are going to pay!

This is the problem with the US these days, there is always someone to sue with deep pockets. I am sure this will really light a fire under Toyota's rear end, and really encourage a lot more inovation in the future (not).

I think most of us will be happy when toyota fixes this design defect in our cars.

There seems to be some sort of group think that this is not a safety issue. The SA in Japan and the US have stated that it is a safety issue that has caused injury accidents. Toyota released the information about the design problems after the Government called them in with documents and warned them not to cover this up. Toyota has stated that it does reduce braking but not a total braking failure. Add extra following distance until this is fixed.

If you have safety problems with your car, report it to the NHTSA. It may be a different problem than is being addressed. I do not understand why people want to suppress safety reports.

Toyota's denial of the unintended acceleration problem directly contributed to deaths. The prius does not have this problem as the car will not accellerate when the brake is depressed. This simple fix is finally going to be implemented on Lexus IS and Toyota Camery vehicles. Toyota is expecting that the UIA will cost US $2B in settlements, repairs, and lost sales. If they had addressed it in a timely manner their would not be the costs or media feeding frensy.

I determined the car is safe to drive. Look, I've owned two Prius' (a G2 and a G3) for several years. I have experienced the braking issue in both vehicles repeatedly and I am still alive. I am not concerned about it as the car is safe to drive. Parking it in your garage is pointless but that's your choice.

The NHTSA already has enough information from Prius owners. The information the NHTSA wants Toyota must provide. You have nothing the NHTSA is interested in at this point of its investigation. You are just wasting your own time, again that is your choice.

This has nothing to do with how I personally feel about the Prius. The sky is not falling. Stop acting like it is already and go drive your car like all the other Prius owners on this planet.

Precisely. We hope it does not have to take a life to be considered a safety issue. The problem with human nature is that people never think that something bad could happen to themselves. If you have felt the problem, reporting to the regulatory agency is the minimum you can do. Report it and let them decide what actions to take. Do your part.

The difference is that everyone who eats fast food knows it clogs their heart. Whereas Prius buyers were kept in the dark and had no expectation that their wonder car would experience these safety issues. I will definitely look more closely at the NHTSA public complaint database before I buy my next car, and I will wait about a year after the new model comes out to make the purchase.

More people die or are injured each year by falling from ladders than runaway Toyotas. Sure, Toyota must correct the issues reported and do so quickly and transparently. Believe me, I am sure Toyota regrets how it handled the issue and if it doesn't now it will when the costs start to stack up. In the meantime just drop it and let the automaker correct the problem.

Toyota will address the problem. Most toyota's will never see the recall problems. Just be aware and drive safely for the time being. No lawsuits needed.

Have you been injured in some way other than your supposed devaluation
of your Prius? I hate to tell you but there's computer software updates
done to vehicles all the time. This isn't first vehicle to receive
a computer update. Class Action my big ol' butt, let's sue someone
just because we can. We took my late Dad's truck in for service some
months ago and the guy said it must have never been back in for service
there were 3 major computer updates it needed.

Seriously this is a good thing. IMO you simply don't deserve the vehicle. I've held for quite some time that these advanced technology vehicles are not for the entire population. There is a good segment of the population for whom the Prius and the hybrid technology are beyond its capabilities.

Sir I believe that you fall into this category. Keep it parked. Hold your breath on the class action, I'm sure that your $25 will arrive before 2020, probably.

Please stop spreading misinformation about the NHTSA. Both the NHTSA and Toyota have stated that drivers should send safety reports raised to the the NHTSA.

I do not understand why you want to remove safety information. New information may point to different fixes.

I am a private pilot. Before I take passengers up in a plane, I do a preflight. If something is not safe, I don't take the plane up. I also get it fixed.

I also have been involved in numerous projects that involve motor systems. Some defects with software, motors, or sensors are hard to reproduce. More information has always been better than less. Different incidents can help test to see if the system has been fixed.
