ASL -- anybody else?

I have the non-NAV JBL sound system and I have never noticed that the ASL works correctly.

 

Next time you drive on the freeway, get a passenger to turn ASL on and off and compare the difference in volume. The difference is very slight.

 

It works in my gen3 but as said - it isn't a massive increase in volume. I have mine set at mid and when I get up to 75mph it is louder.

 

I don't notice any difference in mine. Does ASL have an adjustable setting? I thought it was simply on/off. My prior car had a 5-step adjustment and set at the highest level there was a definite correlation between speed and volume.

I swear ASL makes a difference in EQ also. I turn it off and adjust EQ to be best compromise. Still think the JBL system is pretty sucky sounding.

 

I have read that you should have ASL off for the JBL, it conflicts with what it does in the amp. I have the non JB it sounds like it raises the volume of the mids and low frequency but leaves the high frequencies alone (or doesn't raise them much).

 

I have the basic CD player that comes with the bottom of the line UK model (T3). Is has 3 settings, low, mid and high.
This seems to adjust the volume/speed ratios.

However, while cranking up the volume a bit at speed, the ASL doesn't do any clever EQ so as the volume rises so does the boom from the floor speakers. :rockon:

 

I've tried using the volume speed feature on various settings, and it doesn't seems to make a difference.

I've had a similar feature on several previous cars, and it worked well on them, but I think the road noise in the Prius is too much for this type of feature to compensate for.

 

I just got it back from my dealer and it still doesn't seem to me to make any noticeable difference. I asked them to check and make it the maximum volume increase and they said they did.

What is that theory...occam's razor? Stands for the proposition that usually, the simplest explanation is the most valid.

Can we perhaps agree that maybe this function stinks? It doesn't work? No amount of massaging or dealer intervention will help?

 

I'm in a Ford Focus loaner this week, and their version of ASL is very abrupt, in both directions, as well as very noticeable. So much, in fact, that it required turning the volume up or down, opposite the automatic change. Yuck.

Oh, and the bluetooth hiccups about every 90 seconds.. very annoying!!

 

ASL .... just another gimmick that doesn't work?

Try turning the volume knob ... it's not that difficult!

 

It may not work on the Toyota Prius, but it worked perfectly on three other cars I have owned recently. Thanks for the helpful suggestion, it never occurred to me that that little knob had anything to do with sound. I thought it had something to do with the volume of the space in the passenger cabin. Thanks so much. I guess you ario engineers are reeely smart!

 

I have a 2010 Prius model III. The ASL dos not work, so I'm battling them. Asdvertised - no work = recall or compensation.

Annoying.

 

My ASL does not make that much of a difference in volume, BUT it does increase the bass and possibly, the midbass too. I am OK with this. ASL, more than anything, is done to compensate for road noise. The best way to battle road noise? Increase the the lower end spectrum. And this is what ASL does. Without ASL, the bass gets drowned out by the road noise. So, ASL is ON for me.

I think that US Prius with JBL does NOT have adjustable ASL. My Sienna also does not have adjustable ASL. It is either ON or OFF.

 

I found no difference in my volume after the adjusted it. I would like it to work, but it is not a deal breaker for me.

 

I currently have a Mk4 Ford Mondeo and the AVC, as we call it in the uk, comes in at 50mph (not adjustable) and the volume level can be adjusted in the menus.

 

For me, ASL should be subtle and be not noticeable. I have always used the lowest setting of ASL on my previous cars. My wife's Acura ASL is adjustable and i set it to the lowest setting. I hate the big jumps in volume. For me, ASL in the Prius is near perfect. I just want ASL to increase the lower frequencies to compensate for the road noise so that the bass does not get drown in the noise.
