Has anyone actually received a letter from Toyota telling them to bring their vehicle in to fix the "stuck carpet" pedal? I got a letter a few months ago that was specified as Interim Information for potential floor mat interference with accelerator pedal. It was not a recall but more informational. It also said that this defect does not exist in vehicles in which the driver side floormat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured. Mine meets this standard. It went on to state that Toyota is working on a fix and will notify us when available. I know they have talked about cutting the pedal. My carpets have the clips and will not budge so I am not overly concerned. However, what happened to the recall?
I got a letter like you - it said they would inform me when there was a fix but for now, don't double up your mats, and ideally only use OEM mats. I'm not an idiot -- when I buy 3rd party mats, I install them properly, I make sure they don't interfere with pedals, and I cut a hole for the retention clip.
I spoke to 3 local (rural Texas, NE of Dallas) Toyota dealerships yesterday, and 2 of them said they had received new pedal assemblies that morning. Whether they were Prius pedals is unknown...but parts have begun to arrive. Chuck
I got the letter, promptly blew it off. If your factory carpet is sercured with the clips, and your not dumb enough to add layers of non secure carpet on top of the factory carpet, it's a NON ISSUE!!! I went to my dealer for service, we had a 2 minute conversation about the subject, the service manage agreeded with me, if its properly fastened, it's NOT A PROBLEM!!!
I've just bought a used 2007 Prius. It was originally purchased in the US but retrofitted for Canada (added daytime running lights) long before I bought it. Suspiciously, this car has had 2 previous owners despite relatively low (40K) mileage. But it seems to run fine and we love it so far. In order to stay on top of all the recalls (I know about the floor-mat one) how would I register myself as the owner with Toyota? Do I register with Toyota US or Canada? When I called to ask 'what if' as to warranty service (it is out of the 3 year warranty but still has the powertrain and hybrid component warranty) the Canadian dealership said that any work that might be warranty related had to be approved by Toyota US before they would go ahead a do it and that could lead to a delay of days or longer in any warranty repair scenario. As this is our only vehicle and we live in the country, this isn't exactly what I wanted to hear but I'll ignore that for now. What is more pressing is how do I find out about real issues that pertain to my car, as opposed to the media hype right now? And if the US recalls a car but Canada doesn't, can I still go to the US and get the repair done under the recall? Just for the record: this is my second Japanese car and I expect it will keep me as happy as my first one (a Honda Odyssey) did. On the other hand, I never missed an oil change on my Ford Taurus because the recalls came every 3 - 4 months so I'd get the oil changed while I was in for a recall!
Look in your service and maintenance booklet to see if there's a form that you can complete and mail in to be added to the Toyota owner database. In the meantime, you can look at this website for recall info: Toyota Recall Information - 2009-2010 Toyota Recall List When you get to the point where you need to have SSC or recall work done, I recommend you call a US Toyota dealer near your location and speak with a service advisor about your situation.
First off...:welcome: You're in the right place for information regarding your Prius. There are so many people on here who know TONS of information. After being on here for awhile, it's hard to imagine NOT finding out something I need to know. Soon you might even know more than your dealer! Not exactly sure about how to register, but I would think talk to your local dealer. Right now, of course, they might be a tad busy... But also AFAIK your model doesn't have anything significant as far as recalls go. You can go here to check service bulletins for the Gen II. Good luck and come back here often...
I did receive notice about replacing the factory all weather mats - in fact, I got the notice saying they would replace them with new ones right after I bought a set of used ones on here!!
