My guess is that those of us who have no current rattles would not even bother to open the thread to respond to the poll. The poll numbers are very likely skewed.

Thanks so much for the DW-40 tip. Dealer drove for 30 miles and never heard the noise - - bull. Will try the DW-40 tonight!

My noise is from the center open console. Usually if it is 40's or below. I find if I drive with my right hand putting pressure underneath it stops. Coudln't do that during the snow though :). I shoved a bunch of towels underneath to see if that helped but it didn't. I even started playing my CD's really loud but still hear it. It is quite annoying. Never had a rattle before in any of my cars in the past.

A positive note -- it did great in the snow!

I'm glad we are back on topic here, I think this is a valuable thread for those of us who are interested in fixing rattle problems. Actually I did have another new car that rattled like this one does, it was a Honda Accord, also in its first year of production for that model.

Yes new2 I know exactly what you are doing because I was trying the same thing today, using a towel. I seem to be getting noise from the center console hinges but I haven't figured out how to stop it yet.

I have succeeded in quieting the center console lid quite a bit by putting sticky back felt all around it and some thick felt pads (the round ones they sell for furniture in the hardware section) under the very back where the lid hits.

Also the passenger seat seems to rattle on rough roads, I can make it stop by putting pressure on it but I don't have a real fix for that either.

I really like how this car drives and handles and I'm going to solve this rattle thing somehow, at least I hope so.

I finally traded in my 2000 Saab 9-5 money pit. It was a great solid quiet powerful car, BUT very expensive and frequent repairs. I was on a first name basis with the dealerships. I looked at the VW Golf TDI and Jetta TDI. Really loved both cars but I could not get over the VW/audi reliability and repair cost issues after having the experience I did with the Saab. So I picked the 2010 Prius. So far have been pretty happy with it. Just hope they do a software update soon to the braking system.

Sorry to pull this out of the graveyard... but I noticed that the OP has a 2010, well I have a brand spankin new 2011 and had the same creaking sound as the OP. It's the same sound when I go over uneven pavement, I thought it was the frame of my car! With a dab of WD-40 on the back right passenger seat over the lock mechanism, the creaking is no more! Woot! Thanks OP for the lesson learned!!!!

Good choice, I have had many Saab's and VW's , none were as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. Have 21Kmi on my 2010 Prius and getting over 60 mpg with zero problems.
