Yes. I don't like to offend and I like to be respectful to others. As most people in my country do. If I fall short of the American standard of courtesy, it is entirely my fault.

actually, I was investigating the 'thanks' thing, then noticed the friends bit, and so as you are the only one on the page with a number next to the friend thing, I clicked it and it showed me the exchange there. I don't really know what the average view of using metric is here, it's not an issue so no one even thinks about it. One person said to someone once "do you use metric or 'stupid'? it's all that is taught in schools of course. I think most people here in Australia don't really care. Metric makes sense and is the easiest to use in every day life. even my dad says that, and he grew up with imperial in England, but then my dad doesn't fear change. Just the other day, he asked me how deep I "dug some post holes... about 2 feet"? I stared at him blankly ( because I reject the use of imperial and anything else old-fashioned and welcome new and modern (hence buying a prius!)) and he said "er... 600 milimetres?"

 

I agree with Roger that metric is more easy and logical to use. But when you think all the measuring systems have to be converted overnight, that might cause havoc and confusions on US economy, therefore on the rest of the world. When Sweden had switched to right-hand traffic, the government had to shut down all the streets for a week for the nation to accommodate to the new traffic rules.
I remember when US government had ratified the treaty switching to metric system on a specific date. (I think that was in the first Clinton era), Nothing happened then. I still have a Sharp calculator with metric converter I bought at that time.
Schools now teach metric to students and scientific sector uses metric. So eventually US will go metric. I am afraid that the majority of people here do not see the necessity of the conversion though, as the British and Australian governments once did.

I was going to leave this alone, but you are so far off base that it would be immoral to not correct the error. Your view of the metric system is overly simplified. I'll post a small quote and then a link so that you may be able to understand the different forms of the metric system. The differences aren't important to your average day to day user, but are very important to scientific users.

I believe that was the end of it. Since then the conversion efforts have all been in the commercial sector.

We're not quite to the point of having a 20 minute documentary last over an hour simply because of commercials and flashbacks, but we're working on it (well, that's not entirely true, the French president outlawed the ads between 20h and 7h on public-founded channels, but that was just to please his friends owning the private tv channels).

I bought my Prius in December 09. It is a 2010. The low gas indicator came on and when I filled up to full- I had only put in 9.5 gallons- Wth? The tank is supposed to hold 11.9. The temperature was 37 F. Any suggestions? Another recall issue?

 

It is a low gas indicator - so you know to fill up before you are out of gas.

Once again, low gas is not out of gas.

Different people have different ideas of what is low gas. Cars have been having low gas indicator for 20 years and they are all about the same regardless of whether it is Toyota or another make. Is this your first car ever?

It is not an out of gas indicator. Most people know when their car is out of gas. An indicator won't help (and would be a sick joke ) at that point.

 

Did you track this on your previous cars?

It is an industry norm. All but one of my cars (4 brands) have had a significant amount of fuel (2.5 to 4.5 gallons) remaining after the gauge reached "E" or the low fuel indicator lit up.

The one exception was my very first car. It ran dry on my very first tank, with the needle still above E.

While I'd love greater accuracy in fuel gauging, the auto industry as a whole doesn't believe in it.

 

Are you all idiots retarded? Do you not think I would know when I was getting to empty? Both of you idiots are missing the point. The low fuel indicator should not come if the the gas tank supposedly holds 11.9? Also, ever heard of Google? Try doing a search for "Prius low on gas!"

 

No but you may be suspect for posting the same question in two places then freaking out when you are given rational answers. Then asking a question like "How long are tires rated for?" Settle down Beavis. If you don't like the answers that is fine but flying off the handle is not the way to respond.

'Empty' and 'low fuel light' have been similar indications on all my cars. Two past cars had the light come on a bit above E, the remaining non-hybrid lights it up a bit below E. My answer applies equally to both indications. This Prius is consistent with industry norms.

You think that Toyota represented to us that when the low fuel light turns on, you can put 11.9 gallons in the tank. You can stay in your current level of knowledge.
