Its even more ridiculous on the NAV display since there is plenty of space for the whole text! Don't even get me started on just having 6 preset buttons, or having to toggle between the buttons and the song tag! Or having the lack of a numeric pad to search for channels, or the lack of a voice command to go directly to an XM channel. All my other cars can do this, because they actually thought out the process of having to navigate through 150 channels!

    Incomplete text on display panel

I looked through all the titles in this forum, and didn't see this as a discussion point anywhere. If it is, then I apologize on bringing it up again.

I have always questioned the fact that the display does not seem to display all the information of whatever you are listening to (on the radio) on the display screen.

For example, if I was listening to a radio station, the whole title of the song sometimes does not display completely. This happens more often in listening to my Sirius stations on satellite. It really is mostly frustrating during football games when it reads only one team, and doesn't display the other team's score (i.e. San Diego 24 - Arizo).

There seems to be more than enough "room" on the screen for the characters to fill in on the line that is there. Is there a "fix" to make the display show more of the characters on screen? Perhaps an available firmware update?

Unfortunately no fix or firmware upgrade...

I merged your post into this existing thread.

    Thanks!

Being a newbie, still getting my feet wet in the forum.

... and now I see that I place this in the wrong "Gen" forum at that as well.

    I'll get it right soon.:D

This is probably the first defect I noticed on my new 2010 Prius, the long, mostly empty text box with only 16 characters displayed. As much as I'd like this fixed it is still better than my 2004 Honda Accord which I traded in. That display was also limited to 16 characters but didn't display characters like the ampersand at all. I remember the first time I was showing my dad the XM and the artist was "Echo & The Bunnymen" but displayed as "Echo The Bunny". He was laughing so hard. :)

Also the same story if you do not have NAV. The JBL system has an LCD display that truncates to 10 characters, so Herbie Hancock becomes Herbie Han. I checked in the manual and fiddled around with it to see if there was any way to scroll the text, but no luck. Was hoping they would have thought to do something like "hold in text button" to scroll. Nope. Also tried holding in text and operating other buttons and dials. Looks like they just missed it. With all the incredible engineering that goes into these cars, you would think they could get this right.

I just bought my Prius and I'm late to this, but I traded in my Buick LaCrosse that had XM radio and it did the same thing "Red Hot Chilli Pe" and it did scroll from one page to the next. I thought it was something with the Buick then I see it on my Prius.

My assumption is it must be something with XM and/or the satellite limiting the names length.

You're exactly right. XM has two standards for transmitting the artist and song titles (which they call PAD data) -- an older standard that limits the names to 16 characters and a newer standard that has more (I can't remember the exact amount -- it was either 24 or 32 characters). The radio in the Prius uses the older standard.

Like many others, the truncated display is an annoyance to me. What's even more amazing is that my 2005 Toyota 4Runner with the upgraded JBL (similar to my Prius III's only 5 years older) scrolls just fine - this is not progress on Toyota's part, it is a cost-down at the expense of their customer base.

Since I'm pretty sure that Toyota didn't make these units, as they subcontract most of their pieces parts, perhaps the actual manufacturer of the XM Satellite Radios could offer a solution? Just a thought.....

Wow I am shocked that Toyota dropped a ball on this one. Seems like it'd be simple to fix :(

There is a multi page thread on that exact subject, with the lowest prices anyone seems to have gotten and suggestions on how to get that price:
