I have a 2010 Prius which I purchased in September 2009. It currently has around 3000 miles on it. Sometimes when I put the car in reverse, with my foot still on the brake, the car begins to move back on its own. I have to shift back into park for it to stop. When I attempt to reverse again, it is very jerky, as if the brakes are not sensing how much pressure I am applying. One thing to note: this has not happened if I wait for the gas engine to start before putting the car in reverse. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to get it fixed? I am taking it into get it checked this week, but from what I have read from other posts the service guys don't know what is causing problems like this unless they experience it first hand. Thank you.
If your car is moving while braking pedal is depressed, it is a quite good reason to visit the workshop for the the warranty check. I have a similar ODO and no problems spotted.
The symptoms you describe sometimes happen to me when I back out of our inclined driveway after I've had my foot heavily on the brake pedal. Most times, after I've released the parking brake and am in reverse, the car very slowly rolls down the driveway. Other times, if I've released the parking brake, then do something else like answer the phone, check email/traffic, etc., and I'm waiting in the driveway with my foot on the brake, the reverse feels jerky and rapid. The first time it did this, I was "Wth"!?! Now, if it feels like this is happening, I stop the car, put it in "P," then go into reverse again and I'm back to a smooth reverse. Does this sound like your experience?
Thanks for your response, it does sound similar but with me it happens before I even let my foot off the brake. It has happened 8 to 9 times, if I get an answer from the service guys I will post what they say may be causing it. I was thinking there may be something with a sensor, hopefully it is an easy fix.
Thanks for your response... I hear the normal beep that happens in reverse but I don't think the hillstart assist is engaged (to be honest I don't even know what that is)
When the brake is pressed all the way down HSA engages. Note the flashing VSC icon. The computer will continue to apply the brakes for 2 seconds after the pedal is released if the gas pedal isn't pressed. The idea is to prevent the car rolling downhill in the time it takes the driver to transition from the brake to the gas pedal.
Finally am taking car in this Saturday. I spoke with the service guy and told him all the things that were happening to the car. His response was that it may be normal. I don't think a car should ever move on its own, that is not normal.

Someone else reported to being able to reproduce the backup jerking thing at will, and that it wouldn't do it after the new SW was installed. Has yours been updated?
