EDIT: I've been able to identify the wires based on a wiring diagram - see below. Hi everyone, I'm struggling to identify the wires on this 20 pin connector. I'm trying to install a PAC SWI-JACK to gain steering wheel control with my new head unit. But despite the tech supports best effort, I remain confused. Here is my connector: And here is their diagram: Now, I have to splice into wires 7 and 8...um... It does help somewhat to know that their picture is with the plug having the wires in back. So you have to imagine turning the connector in my hand around 180 degrees. Also, notice the direction of the top with the plastic latch. Now, my GUESS right now is that wires 7 and 8 are black and white. So the order would go: pin 6= red/gold dot (I know you can't see that in the pic...trust me, it's there) GND pin 7=black/gold dot,SW1 pin 8=white/gold dot SW2 pin 9=pink, TX+ pin 10=white TX- Does that seem correct? Now, if so, can someone tell me what those wires do?? Many thanks for any help...I figured I'd better ask here first before I start cutting and soldering.
What connector is it supposed to be, and what do you mean by "steering wheel control"? More context would help. . _H*
Sure, I'll try...upon removing my stereo (non-JBL) I had three connectors to come out of the back of the stereo. One of them was a 20 pin connector. I'm sorry I can't identify it further than that because I'm not sure what it's supposed to be except that it did connect into the stereo. Here are the three connectors as they are connected in back (sorry the photo is a bit blurry) The 20 pin is on the far left. By steering wheel control, I mean this PAC device is supposed to help my new head unit retain the steering wheel controls for the volume, track select, etc. Just that now those controls will be applied to the new head unit instead of the old stereo. Does that help??
Just to help anyone else - I've edited my original post. See above. I did end up cutting and tapping into the SW (steering wheel) wires with success. (But what does TX stand for??)
The control head uses a resistor array and switches to control seek volume etc. SW1 is a black wire on C7, SW2 is a white wire on C8 and ground (common) is a red wire on C6. I think these are the left most wires in your picture. If you need a schematic, send me an email with your personal email, and I can send it to you. The Tx Rx signals are to communicate with the MFD. I doubt that any aftermarket radio will support this. The other wiring will depend on which version you have, with the external or built in amplifier.
Thanks - sent you a PM for the schematic. And yes, the steering wheel controls are supported with an aftermarket unit (PAC SWI-JACK in my case) but I also don't think any MFD support is possible with an aftermarket stereo.
