Someone please remind me about something. The article says: ". . .the federal government passed legislation that will give initial Volt buyers a $7500 tax credit. . ." How is this legislation phrased? Would it also apply to the Plug-in Prius?

20s, then 30s, then 40s, back to 30s. Again, I am simply not going to believe ANY details (availability date, cost, mpg with and without batteries, electric range, etc) until I actually see a product.
What ~ he doesn't take questions? No one asks? What's up with that. Ask prior EV1 Lessors. Their air dams were similarly low slug for better drag rates. Sick irony ... GM charged back the EV1 lease customers for bringing 'em back with damaged air dams at the end of the lease, before they crushed 'em. Will the Volt production be that low? My inquirey is will it make it into production at all. hope hope. .
That particular tax credit is tied directly to each automaker, with specific quantity/time limits. So, no. .
They really know how to build customer loyalty, don't they? :madgrin: Good point. I think they will go into production eventually but the number of available vehicles will be purposely be really low.
Battery production will limit the amount of Volts just as it has limited the amount of Prius production in the past.

As CEO, and new on the job, I just don't think that he has the familiarity with little nit-picking details such as how the Tax Credit mechanism works. Shooting from the hip so to speak. Over on the GM boards the faithful were in Super Bowl mode when this story hit. The cheering could be heard all the way over here . Then the comments reverted to Ayatollah-mode...'Death to the Prius'.
Is this another way of saying that we (taxpayers) gave them tons of money just to stay in business and now we're giving them more money for every new Volt they build and with that money they will be able to profit on every new Volt they build?
This has been in the law for at least a year. The tarp funds have nothing to do with this. The volt has been rumored to be in the low 30s after $7500 tax credit for a long time. Please complain about the fuel cell, oil scale, ethanol government give aways. Electric cars look like they will benefit from the incentives, and they are likely to be short term. UAW and car companies including toyota have conspired to keep the cafe standard low, and to put personal use trucks and suvs in other categories. Toyota and GM conspired to change the california law that helped kill the ev1. Let's get some more electrics out there so that battery costs drop and imported oil is less necessary.
