I bought a used 2005 Prius with 40K miles on it. I was wondering if it is still covered under warranty. In addition, how do I find out if any recall's have been issued for it? Thanks Sparky
The bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired; it's 36K miles. The power train warranty still is good to 60K miles/5 years. The hybrid system warranty is 100K miles/8 years, or in California (and a few other states -- it will help us help you if you include something more specific than "Earth" in your profile) it is 150K miles/10 years. Recalls and TSBs aren't necessarily the same thing. The only actual recall (or "special service campaign") my 2005 has had is for the steering shaft. I have also had the coolant heat storage water pump replaced under a TSB. As for a list of other TSBs, NHTSA has a database and then there's ... PriusChat.
Your local Toyota dealer can run the VIN of your car and determine whether the steering shaft SSC (aka recall) needs to be performed, or if the work was already done.
Your general mechanic can access a site where all the TSB's are posted. you can have them print it out if you want to.
Does the "California" warranty apply to cars originally sold in CA, or currently registered in CA, or just passing through?
