Sorry for the unusual request. I just bought a used Prius that has bluetooth but no navigation. HOwever I see a Map button on the steering wheel. I don't have any map related buttons on the dash board. I was wondering if this is normal. Or my steering wheel has been changed and it actually came from the car that had navigation. Remember I have bluetooth and it is working and hence I have the bluetooth handsfree and the phone pickup and hangup buttons right underneath the Map/Info buttons on the steering wheel. Also the Info button works and switches the display between the mpg screen and the engine view screen. It is just the Map button that does not respond of course since it does not have the Navigation. When I press it it says there is no external device present. So I was wondering if there is anyone out there who owns a Prius with bluetooth but no navigation, and still has the Map button on the steering wheel. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.
No, even the non-nav cars have the map button. Press it and the MFD will read that the equipment is not installed. Pearl is probably the same package as yours, though they were slightly different in the two years. Everything but nav.
Thank you guys for the responses. This cleared my doubts. @Neilz: I have a 2009 Prius - Generation 2. It is quite different from the Generation 3 2010. Sorry for not mentioning it in the original post.
Is there an external device you can instal to have navigation if you have map button, but no navigation?
You could hypothetically get the nav unit from a salvage vehicle and hook it up. You'd probably have to install a GPS antenna and possibly also other sensors. I think there was someone trying to do this once.. but it was concluded that it's not worth the effort due to the low price of aftermarket units. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...possible-install-factory-gps-system-08-a.html
Hello, I have the same issue with my prius. It is a 2006. It was a hand me down from my parents. When I got in it I set up the phone and then went to the nav and just like you. I have nav on the steering wheel but nothing on the dash. Luckily I had the original paperwork and it did not come with nav, got my parents on the phone and confirmed that there were no accidents. Maybe toyota was just cheap and did not make a steering wheel without the map option.
