My Gen III is Onyx Black. I love it...except my neighbor has about 8 cats (no exaggeration) and I only have a carport. Needless to say, I was pretty upset to see that her cats scratched my new paint on the hood of my new car! For now, I cover the hood w/ a blanket and tuck the corners into the doors so that when the doors are closed, they hold the blanket in place. But I'm wondering if Toyota (or anybody else) makes a decent car cover for the Gen III? I've looked online, but haven't seen any yet. Has anyone else seen one? Or know of a car cover that fits the Gen III properly? Thanks!
I ordered my Gen III car cover at my Toyota Dealer Parts Department. It cost $112 and is made by Intro-Tech Automotive. It is a custom cover that fits tightly over the entire car, including the stubby, flexible, antenna. I am 6' tall and I have a little trouble getting the cover over the antenna without ripping the cover or excessively bending the antenna. The antenna is easy to remove, just unscrew it. But that is not very convenient. I thought about getting a Shark Fin antenna but I couldn't find any technical specifications on it or the original antenna to compare performance. I have the AT package and that includes GPS and Satellite Radio. So performance is important to me. You can check out the car cover at Car Floor Mats, Car Covers, Auto Sunshades by Intro-Tech Automotive
I actually had an opportunity to do a photo shoot with my car for California Car Cover Company for their catalog or online site. Hasn't shown up yet, but should be in one or the other soon. They asked which cover I wanted and got to choose their Extreme Tech cover which is the best cover I have ever used. It's breathable, waterproof, lightweight, and silver to reflect the heat. Just happened to go in their store shortly after I bought the car looking for a good wax for it and they asked if I'd be interested. The covers should be available here any day now. Last I checked their site they still weren't on there for the Gen. III's but they're coming. If you want something better than the Toyota basic cover it will be worth waiting for I promise. If it's literally just to protect from the cats then stick with the cheaper Toyota one. Also, Costco usually has universal car covers in 3 different sizes that you could use and if I recall they were less than $50. I bought one for my project Mustang and it does pretty well especially for the money. Hope this helps.
