In a broad sense, no it would not sound muffled because bass is mostly non-directional and the notes are not very distinct. This is why you can build a "bandpass" style enclosure where the sub is completely enclosed within a chambered wooden or fiberglass box. As long as the air can move through space then you will hear/feel it. It is important to keep the area open and clear of any major restrictions to air movement but otherwise carpet and such will not really change the sound much. The direction the sub is facing will, however, greatly affect the volume and sound of the sub. e.g. facing the sub back towards the hatch is always louder than facing the sub towards the driver.

I was curious about this when doing my install, tho pretty confident that the low frequency sounds produced by the sub would penetrate fine. Once I was all done I've tried carefully listening to various tracks featuring lots of bass, both with my cover and WeatherTech matt on and off. Even with the cover on but the hinged access door propped open. Maybe someone with "Golden" audiophile ears would notice some difference, but I don't.

I have 2 questions that I hope someone can answer for me - How hard is it to take the door panels off and what wire do I change to make the bluetooth work in the center speaker instead of the door speaker?

The door panel is a piece of cake. Just a couple screws and it pulls right off. Pull out to pop the pins out of the sockets then lift up to clear the upper window ledge. There is one screw hiding behind a small black piece of plastic in the door handle. ;)

I cannot answer your other question. :(

Also can't help with the bluetooth question but I will say - having just taken off the panels a few times - get yourself a door panel tool. Yes, you can do it without it, but the little grooved V on those tools will really help. They make it much easier to get off and a lot less likely you'll do any damage to the panel itself. Don't ask me how I know...

PS. I like the list of "rides" you have listed...

My best ride is the oldest one:love::eyebrows: the fastest ride is the newest one.

:focus: Now that I have the center speaker disconnected I really want to make it the bluetooth only speaker, I will just have to dive in there I guess. Maybe after today's football games...

    Agreed!

Back in the day I tried to sell my girlfriend on one of my LS1 racing forum's Classifieds Section. LOL

Here is the actual ad I placed:

    For Sale

    1981 Blonde Mexican
Newer body style, tan in color, custom front grille, low miles. HAS NOT BEEN MODDED! No mufflers (LOUD AS A MOFO!), I think the cats are shot because she stinks. Plenty of power out of such a small engine, trust me when I say "if you punch her, she punches right back!"

$2k OBO (need money to buy new heads for T/A)

    Disclaimer:
If upon purchase everything in your house starts to mysteriously break down including your mind please be aware that upon signing of contract you are STUCK with her and cannot give her back under any circumstances.

That's what is great about California, so many different manufacturers to choose from.

However, it's been my experience that when there are manufacturer defects, I never seem to get a recall. Also, I have found that trading models can get VERY expensive. It seems I always end up upside-down in the process and have to continue to pay for the previous model even after commiting to a new one. I've also found that eventually they all seem to blow a head gasket now and then. Must be the nature of the design.

the audio output from the navigation ecu taps into the factory (jbl) amplifier's left front speaker output. all you have to do is re-wire it to the center speaker. if you're unfamiliar w/ car speaker wiring i would recommend you take it to an car audio shop.

So Ashe, do you happen to know which color the nav ecu wire is that is going to the left front speaker? Of course it is raining here (something that it very rarely does here) so as soon as it stops for a day I am going to tackle this project.

haven't visited priuschat in 3.5 yrs. thought i would give this thread a bump in case anyone is interested in a similar solution. i saw the photobucket links were disabled so i uploaded a few photos for reference.

no changes have been made since the first install. i had gave some thought initially to upgrade to a 10" sub but never got around to it.

Anyone try a 12" in the cubby? The dual 12" enclosure in the boot interferes with the groceries too much ;)

I have a bunch of Aliantes (shallow <4" deep subwoofer), so I'm planning on using one of them.
