I'm new to the priuschat and wanted to contribute as the information here helped in my buying of a new 2010 Prius. I did purchase this through my credit union and they used the direct buying of Autonation in Denver Colorado. Here are the details: 2010 Prius IV Options SY (Solar and moonroof) MSRP: $31,499 Invoice: $29,495 Paid: $28,900 plus Colorado Tax I believe this was a pretty good deal as I've been negotiating for several months with dealers in the entire Intermountain region. Let me know if anyone would like more of the details.
AAA shows MSRP $31230, Invoice $29293, AAA price $29993 in Colorado Springs so your price is extremely good.
That sounds like is was a very fair deal --- i have a trade-this complicates things ---supposed to leave my deposit tomorrow for prius iv w solar pkg - blue and a few extras already on the car -alloy wheel locks etc msrp 31646 have a loan bal of 10900 on 2007 civic ex w nav 99,500 miles They are paying off the loan and then I pay 20613 (includes doc fees) does not include mass tax & registration Did you get an extended warranty? Good job on your!! How do you think this sounds
I'm jealous. I got a Blizzard Pearl 2010 Prius IV with SR for 30975. That's almost 2000$ more than what you paid. Great deal!
so i just joined tonight after completing my purchase of a 2010 Prius IV in LA area, and wanted to confirm I got a good deal (took a ton of research and prep for a few weeks) which by the looks of the reaction to your deal Mark, it is, but this is what I got: 2010 Prius IV Options SY (solar roof) and CF (carpet mats) MSRP 31,430 Paid: 28,650 plus California Tax I found consumer reports and carbuyingtips.com to be very helpful. They also offered me an extended warranty at $1600 (started at $2100) - I declined, should I have taken that?
No. You can get the Toyota extended warranties for a lot less through PriusChat's vendor Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA. For example, the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan 7 years/100,000 miles/$0 deductible retails for $1850, but Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA sells it for $1055. Also, I'm of the opinion that it's best to wait until you are approaching the expiration of the 3 years/36,000 miles Basic Warranty to decide (1) whether to get an extended warranty and (2) which warranty to get in terms of maximum years and miles to suit your past and anticipated future driving (the Platinum Plan comes in 9 different years/miles combinations, and each one is offered with either a $50 or $0 deductible).
My dealer was pushing the Toyota ext service plan pretty hard. Told me his cost was $855 and was willing to sell it to me for $880. I may go back and get it yet..
I really wanted the sunroof and the only way to get this is to get the solar. Also, we do have a few months each year where the heat is high enough that it will be good to keep the inside cooler. I'm with most of the other posters here that they (Toyota) really needs to utilize the solar in much greater/better ways than the current design.
Great job on the price, the best I have seen! I agree with Boo that you should wait till you get closer to the end of your std. warranty (36,000/36 month) to determine the best extended plan based on how the car has held up and what problems you have encoundered.
I live in the Dallas metroplex and I paid MSRP. Since I had a 2007 Prius Touring with Pkg 6 before, the closest similar model in the 2010 was either the Prius IV or the Prius V (smart key opening all the doors, leather interior). I chose the IV with solar for the moonroof over the park assist and lane keeper features. In Texas, I thought I might benefit more from the solar than parallel parking which I rarely have to do. Truth be told, I never parallel park - can't do it. Since I always park "in another zip code" to avoid door dings, I am used to finding far out parking places. In comparing the interior of the cars, I am personally not a fan of the "multi-color" interiors that are being offered in the car. Ash was the only interior that seemed to "match" to me. There were many cars on the lot that had misty gray, but I could not get over the dark strip on the console and the dark squares on the doors. The floor mats are black too, right? I know all of those things limit the dirt showing, but it was not to my liking. None had solar. In a tight economy, there were not many Prius IV to choose from and even less Prius V. So that said, I had to order and then wait. Hence the MSRP. I ordered Blizzard Pearl on Dec 9th. I kept checking back and it wasn't showing up as coming into port and then told the salesman to look to see if a Classic Silver might be coming in. There were 2 not presold arriving around Dec 24 and Dec 27. I told him I would think about it over the holidays and let him know. He took a chance and requested the Classic Silver and didn't tell me. On Dec 28th, I went back in to check on my Blizzard Pearl. Still not on the boat, but the Classic Silver was in would be at the dealership before the end of the month. So I caved and said yes because of the looming price increase and the tax credit. I signed the papers on Dec 30th, but was out of town so I couldn't actually pick it up until Jan 4th. The only "deal" I got was for the dealer to tint the car. When the car arrived, the top part of the back bumper was scratched. They told me they will paint it and I would not be able to tell - so at that point I said OK but I wanted the black bumper protector put on it($41 PriusChat Shop item). I know I got suckered but sometimes that is the way it goes.
So, no handling or destination charges? Never heard of a dealer that didn't tack those charges on to the final sale price. Otherwise, yes, good price. I paid just over $30K (pre-taxes) for everything, including extended warranty and floor mats.
Similar to my deal just a bit better. I got mine at Dec '09. My Prius III Solar (solar, moonroof and nav) Sticker $28.400 I got for $26,600 + Cali Tax. I done this in 1 hour
Not sure who you were asking the question to, but yes I had handling, destination etc tacked on to MSRP.
If you're asking me, I only paid Destination fee, documentation($55) fee and registration fees. Destination and registration fees are unavoidable, and real costs that cannot be avoided with ANY car you purchase. Fees NO ONE should pay are - floorplan, dealer holdback, wholesale, advertising fees (they're called by dozens of different names for salesman to hide) but amount to costs they dealer gets reimbursed by the factory on once they complete the sale, so if you pay a $550 floorplan fee, they basically are making $1100,because they get your money, and their money back. ON top of that - it gets factored into the sale price, and YOU pay the sales tax on the total price of the car, so even more money out of your pocket.
wondering what price one can expect to pay almost a year later than the first post in this thread (i.e. today) for a 2010 Prius IV with solar package in the NYC area? We are expecting to pay cash. Any advice welcome!
I wrote this elsewhere in a price paid thread but this is specific to IV with Solar Package: I purchased my car this past Thursday Dec. 2 2010. Car is series IV Blizzard Pearl with Misty Gray leather and Solar Roof pkg. and 5 mats. 7/10 build date. I would have liked the option to get a V with Solar even at the expense of a mpg or two. Sunroof was a must so the IV was my decision. List was $32,060 including $760 delivery. Purchase price was $26,901.59 inclusive of Toyota cash back of $1500. Tax, tags and dealer processing fee of $389 was on top of that. My 'out-the-door' price was $28235.25. I am very happy with that deal, and delighted with the car. Dealer was Springfield Toyota in Springfield, VA just south of DC. I priced the car through USAA but these people beat USAA by $100+. I gave a local dealer a shot at my business but they were $950 away. Springfield Toyota great to deal with. Gave me a straight up price first time around. I didn't want any add ons, paint protector etc etc and they didn't push me. They gathered I was price driven. Offered an extended warranty for $1750 which I kindly refused. Love the car...I had rented one last weekend to confirm I wanted the car. I played around with a ScanGauge II in the rental and first thing I did to my new car was use xGauge to change reverse beep to single, and kill the seat belt beeps. 58 mpg on my 80 mile return trip to Richmond All is good!
